The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Frank gets on my nerves. Makes me think of lounge lizards.

ROTFL!! I must say, he was never one of my favorites, either.

Iddn't though?

He's singing about his sweet valentine, who isn't perfect. But he tells her don't change a thing!

Today it'd be "Yo, biatch, ho...." or something done by a boy band.

I absolutely LOVE Swing Music!! It's the tom-toms that I like. I've always had a thing for percussion!

I wish that we'd had Irish Step Dancing around when I was growing up. I never would have stopped dancing! I quit dance class at the end of the 7th grade. We had gotten a new teacher that year and she'd choreographed a tap routine for my younger sister and me. It was SO lame, that we asked her if we could change it. The teacher was big into ballet and modern dance, and she was eager to get some of the girls 'on toe', but ballet was never my thing, or my sister's so we quit at the end of that year.

I never learned to dance, but I did play a lot of big band tunes back when I was a band geek.

I'm tellin' ya, I love the era.

I want some Julie London CDs at some point. Really like her voice, though I dunno much about her.

Heh...I discovered her because when I was overseas, there was a long commercial for Jaguars that just showed the car driving around as she sang "Fly Me to the Moon" - no talking or anything else. It was a beautiful thing. ;-) And after a lot of searching I finally figured out who the singer was.

Hmmm. I'll look into her. I'm always on the hunt for new discs.

My goal is to have the most eclectic collection imaginable.

Heh...I'm likely in competition with ya there.

I have a weird assortment. Celtic rock, Celtic traditional music, stuff like Jim Croce, Hank Williams, classical, opera, self-produced folk singer albums, swing, Appalachian...even some stuff like U2 and The Eagles.

Out of curiosity why are you pointing that out to me?

I'm still trying to illustrate the ironic innocence thang.

Do you have any industrial, trance, or cheesey 80's hair bands?

Ah, ok.

I dislike applying words like "innocence" to any era. Because if you lived through it I just don't think you'd find it so innocent. They just had different issues than we do.

Heh...no. That's one category I'm short on. ;-)

I have jugband music, though!

And some modern British stuff.

That's why I used the ''. It's a paradigm thing - It's easy to say "Anyone who doesn't have it like we do must have had it pretty good." But every era has baggage.

I love the 1800s period. I also love antibiotics.

I've got contemporary Christian... a little classical... and anime soundtracks. Not a very broad collection, but sort of weird together.
