Yeah, I'm pretty crochety, though I haven't made anything in years. I was thinking of doing a scarf for my friend in Japan on my way over there; one of those funky long ones done with some bright colors like lime and tangerine. Also, I'm less likely to get static from the TSA folks about my crochet needle than I might with knitting needles, though I was told that they were ok now.
Well said!
Well ya don't have to homeschool to make sure kids have the whole faith/critical thinking thing. It's just more work to have to undo the damage the standard public education does. Lots of good parents manage inspite of the challenges.
You could crochet your way to Japan. How cool! I think I'd try to sleep.
Thanks for the prayers and I appreciate the help you guys provide. I'll send some pics of the guys you have already helped out in our unit.
Im in Iraq and was told by some of the guys about you and saw some of the knifes you sent and just wanted to say thank you. Not only did you put something into there hands they can use but you show them much more. Thank you again.
Well, to a certain extent I agree. Especially since you know how I hate to argue anything in a religious context. ;-)
But, my assumption is that Jen and I have more of a background in dealing with these fundamentalists.
These are the same people who opposed Dungeons and Dragons. These are the same people who marched in protest against "The Last Temptation of Christ." These are the same people who thought Jimmy Carter was the antichrist. Which, if you think about it is an insult to the antichrist. I can find no scriptural reference for the antichrist being a bunny-fearing buffoon.
My point is that God gave us the arts. He gave us creativity and imagination. And he gave us an appreciation for humor and music and lots of things. Those who would fight against it are missing some of the best parts of God's creation.
There's no religious value in Harry Potter. But there's also no religious harm. They're make believe. That's all.
And, as for hanging our hats on what Rowling is going to do, I just don't think she's that stupid. I think we will see Harry have a stronger battle with the evil side, maybe even enough to kill him. But I think if she turned him completely over to evil, she would destroy the series. Even if her creative side would want to do that. Her marketing side knows better.
Star Wars would not have endured if Luke hadn't turned Vader back. There would have been no call for the first three (quality of 1 and 2 aside). We wouldn't have cared.
Turning Harry over to the dark side completely would be like letting Frodo keep the ring.
mmmmmm....steakses and eggses...
That was my whole point.... maybe I phrased it poorly or something.
Or maybe I was too involved in my steakses and eggses...
Or both ;~D
They think fiction is dangerous.
I hope somewhere along the way he becomes less spoiled. (that's my only real criticism of the series, btw.) There was a glimmer of hope in the most recent book (title eludes me). He starts to get some comeuppance. He is forced to acknowledge the strengths and abilities of his friends. I hope the humbling of Harry continues!
That's prolly why I never deal with those folks.
Hair - it seems there might be one or two of those on the wedding thread. That darn movie might entice the weak minded to break *gasp* THE RULES!!
I think that was meant for kids to be able to identify with him. Especially since he's much better mannered than he ever should have been growing up with the Dursleys.
I'll grant you that. And it is true that it is every child's ultimate fantasy to be the special boy or girl who can get away with not following the rules (er, legitimitate school rules and the directives of the adults in lives - not necessarily wedding ettiquite....).
Okay, I have to get back to work. Have I mentioned I'm redoing (or finishing) our bathroom? We've just been living with the basics since it was redone after the leak. I've replaced the old blinds and am putting up new hardware, towel racks, etc. I've got until midnight-ish tomorrow night. But I think I'll be able to finish tonight.
Later.
Evenin' folkses...
I'm just going to hang around for the next precious....
Yup.
:)
