The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Let them go! Let them go!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
|
|
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
|
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

1974? Sigh.
LSA and I had been married for two years by then and were in our final semester of graduate school at Texas A & M.
Sigh.

Afternoon!
Didn't quite get to the raised bed but I've got a lot of rubble in the wheelbarrow.

Just got another email and photo from a happy Hobbit Hole knife recipient (HHHKR?):
-------------
I don't know what to say...other than THANKYOU!!! I am absolutely amazed at the patriotism in this country and also from YOUR ORGANIZATION. I love this country, the people in it, and our way of life. Obviously, you feel the same way. That's why I keep talking my wife into letting me stay in even though I could have retired a few years ago.
I don't know if there is anything I can do to help you folks. One of my hobbies is photography and I would be more than glad to send you some military photos if you could use them for personal use or maybe even advertisement. Just let me know and I'll send them to you on digits. I'm an Apache Pilot, so maybe I could incorporate your knife into a crew photo or something. Please let me know. I'm always looking for ideas.
I've enclosed a photo I took back in 2001/02 while deployed to Bosnia-Herzigovina.
Thanks again, Sincerely,
CW3 David L. G

Rubble in the wheel barrow is good, nice filler material for the holes you dig to get dirt. :-)

Evenin' folks.
Back fron the niece-lings birthday party. Then ended up going to dinner with the family and some friends of the inlaws. Of course it ended up being a production.
Went to thedoctor this morning and got some antibiotic eye drops for the pinkeye. Yep, that's what it is. I though only younguns got this stuff.
Oh, and between the birthday party and dinner we had a HUGH thunderstorm. Those folks watchin' it from the front porch saw the tree underwhich muh truck was parked...

What'd the tree do? Heh...I was wonderin' how long it would take someone to ask.
First, the truck is fine. But this was a HUGH loblolly pine. Apparently the lightning just went straight down the tree. The tree didn't fall, but pine cones and bits of bark flew all over the place.
But the truck ~was~ parked right under it.

Wow! I've never seen a lightning strike that close!
Don't rub your eyes! Did you get it from the pool? Does everyone else have it?

No, this isn't from the pool. I think this is just residual from the cold I had and from fidgiting with my contacts.
And don't worry. I'm washing my hands every chance I get.
