The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I have been doing a good bit of running lately with the training. But it is still slow going since I need to drop 15 or 20 pounds. Last time I did this much running I was 20 pounds lighter and that makes a big difference. I usually go 5k when I run but not fast and not in the woods >.<

I haven't been able to run in years. I need to drop quite a bit more than 15-20.

In other news, we had to take Jr. in for some sports physical therapy this week. He's complained for a good while about his knees. Turns out it's a problem with his arches. He needs $pecial in$ert$ for his athletic $hoe$. That ~should~ take care of the knee problem.

Oh, and get this. While Algebra and grades in general continue to be a struggle. He's in the top percentiles for all of the standardized testing.

Go figger.

Speaking of cooler places...

Have we narrowed down a timeframe and a possible location for Rocky Moot?

We go to the beach next week. We'll have to be deciding about rental and stuff for next year. So it would help if I could narrow down the date.

Not to be pushy or anything...

You should beable to find where this picture was taken quite easily. Kamakura has this main big street that goes right through the middle of town from the sea up to this big temple. We are standing at the entrance to this cool shaded path that goes down the middle of this road up to the temple (way down the path to our right). The sea is down the road in the behind the camera direction. I have shots from that beach too but not online. So I have stood at just about the exact point where you will see the Pacific coast beach :D

I'm pretty sure we decided on the 3rd week of July, right?

As to where, it's still up in the air.

I can't even remember where that great place was - the one I posted that allowed pets and was on a nature preserve.

And I've looked for it and can't find it again! :-P

Er... any time between late May and early August is good for me. I would suggest it be at least late June if we're going to stay in the mountains, but probably not around the 4th of July or too late in August.

I need to spend some time looking for locations.

For no real reason, I decided it was time for some Gordon Lightfoot today. Hadn't listened to any of his music in awhile.

Ya know...I love a lot of his lyrics, and his general sound...but I really wish he hadn't (apparently) gone to the same school of diction as Bob Dylan.

Guess one of these days I should find a website with lyrics so I can figger out what he's really saying on some of the songs I'm not as familiar with.

I was pretty sure we'd narrowed it to late July. The third week works for me.

I can't do June OR August.

Ok, that should be a good time of year. Now we need to get a fairly firm headcount so we know what price range to look at.

>>Go figger.

Doesn't surprise me at all.

Let me tell ya, my mom truly thought I was slow. When I was in the sixth grade, she took me to a university and had me tested to see *how* slow...I was in low-average classes (this was in the 70s, you know.)

Come to find out that I read at a college level and tested just below genius on my IQ test! (I don't know how accurate those things are, but I'm just sayin'...) I tested higher in my IQ test than my brother who was in all gifted classes.

Unfortunately, my mom never could get over the idea that her daughter wasn't *slow*...it was her established opinion of me and I think she had intended to use it as a means to draw sympathy towards herself. "Poor me, I have a slow daughter."

It took years for me to even get over the idea...I still struggle with that opinion of myself, as you know.

All I can say is have faith and patience and all that intelligence that you know is in there will come out and he'll be just fine. I've said so all along! I remember when I first sat down in nursing school and started listening to the teacher lecture...I was enthralled. Fascinated! Almost obsessed with learning! Even the math, that I had always despised had a purpose and I had a desire to learn it.

Nope. Although that one isn't bad at all!

The one I found had a big screen TV built into a wrap-around corner stone fireplace thingy.

And it was all windows, with a deck leading right out from the living room so that the ~evil~ smokers can look through the windows to see what everyone else is doing. :-D
