The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Theme parks are amazing places for observing the collectively bad taste of Americans.

Last year at Universal Big'ol and I observed a well-endowed woman pushing a stroller along at a good clip. It was a hot day and there were a lot of skimpy outfits on parade. This woman, however, rightfully realized that those skimpy tops wouldn't provide enough support, so she went without. She was pushing the stroller in her beige bra.

We felt like the Aflack duck in the Yogi Berra Haircut commercial? AAAAAAH???

One lived two and a half years and the other only a year and a half...we think they succumbed to heat stroke, but not sure.

They weren't actually allowed in the house, you know...the times that they had their pictures taken in the house were only posed pictures...then they went right back out into the back yard.

I didn't know they had such short lives. One of the most memorable dogs I ever had died after 2.5 years. Glad she was around for that short of a time though.

The old guard pool board members used to tell the story about the woman they had to evict because she came to swim...in her bra and panties...kept swearin' it was a swimsuit.

And don't get me started about the woman at the gym who wears her panties on the OUTSIDE of her leotard.

Couldn't you just bake the brownies, cut them up and freeze them? Do they have to be baked along with the rest of the meal?

She does have a point, namely, are bikinis really any different than bra and panties?

I haven't used it lately, but my suit does at least have a nice little pair of shorts as the bottom.

I haven't really shopped for either lately.

But, if the story was conveyed correctly, I believe it was the material that gave away the um...secrets...

So to speak.

Yes, I could...the brownie isn't essential. The tray did lovely in the microwave...and that's what Steve wants anyway.

I can make him regular low-carb brownies and almond bread slices and put them in baggies and he can just grab them along with a TV dinner...

This was not exactly a meal I would want to make for him anyway, what with a real brownie, a heaping helping of stuffing and mashed potatoes with gravy...

My goal is complete low-carb frozen meals for him. Ease is a big deal with Steve and why he did so well on Atkins...I made his entire food quota for the day every day...it was usually more than he could eat, even. But the minute it gets too complicated for him, he reaches for the crap.

Well, we only think it could have been heat stroke, but don't know...the other hens were completely uneffected. So I don't think it was their feed or water. I don't know...maybe they got into something in the yard...I've wondered if our neighbors sprayed around their fence line, but I can't see any evidence of it.

Still, I emptied out the last of their feed and sanitized their waterer with clorox solution...

It was so abrupt...they were fine the evening before, dead in the coop the next morning.

No doubt. It was fowl play.

I showed that cartoon to Steve that you posted and he thought it was hysterical.

But believe it or not, you know how tenderhearted he is, it just nearly killed him when had to bury those hens. I don't know if it was because of the fresh eggs we were going to miss or because the jedis were so upset or what but he couldn't even speak.

Ugh, we have a new situation...

Our trailer trash redneck neighbors are really starting to piss me off. In the last couple days, they have pulled in a couple of junky RV-type trailers, one with the word "FREE" spray-painted on the side, and parked them right on the other side of our fence. And, apparently they come complete with residents! Some new guy is hanging around, working on the trailers, and on cars, and spending his free time screaming at his dog.

Here is the new view from our side window...

Unfortunately, our rhododendrons are not yet big enough to provide a privacy hedge. So I am considering privacy fence options... anyone have experience with such a thing? All we need is about a 20-25 foot section.

Of course, we could always set up a webcam... trailertrashneighbors.com is available. Hmmmm.

That's what we had to do, you know...when our scummy neighbors got rid of Bear and then got a one of those sheepdogs that are black and white...can't remember what they're called, but it was a gorgeous dog and I couldn't stand to see them mistreat it. So we put up that big fence and it sure was nice...

Ours is called a dogear stockade panel, six foot tall, 8 feet long panel. From Lowes. We just put 4x4x8 posts up every 8 feet and nailed them up.

Each panel cost us about $30 so you'd need about three and then the 4x4x8 posts are like six bucks a piece, you'd need four of them and 4 bags of concrete to sink them in.

One nice thing to have is a fence post level...

Be sure and put the pretty side facing you!

Border Collie.

Thirty bucks a panel isn't bad... We haven't measured, but I bet we'd need 4 to cover it.

See, here's the "ugly" side, facing our back yard and the "pretty" side facing the street so our property looks nice. It's actually got a section that's bolted instead of nailed to the posts so we can unbolt and access the back yard with the truck if we need to.

Here's the ugly side facing our scummy neighbors and the pretty side facing us!

Here I am using one of those levels I was telling you about...really convenient tool.
