The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!
Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

     | Upon the hearth the fire is red,Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
 Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!
 |
      |
      | Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!
 |
      |
Home is behind, the world ahead,And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
Well wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

It's a little bit fun to look back at all the people I thought I'd be, and how none of them are right. Yup. Kind of sentimental, too. Some of those people would have been fun, I think. But I still have time and lots of stuff on my to-do list.

I told Steve he could leave after 50 years.SSQ's parents made an agreement that the first one to leave had to take the kids. They had six. ;o)

    Mmmm...sourdough...

I've also been craving some nice whole wheat bread...something good and hearty, maybe with some sunflower seeds in it. Maybe I'll make some while Jen is gone. ;-) I can use some of the yeast you gave us!

To: Alkhin
I bought the DVD last week, along with Independence Day and Stargate.

I'd have become a completely different person if I'd have taken any other forks in the road I took to get here. I once had a lady I worked with ask me if I was interested in a menage with she and her husband. I'm not kidding you one single bit.
"It woulda changed everything. I'd have to dress different. I'd have to act different. I'd have to get all kinds of robes and lotions and I'd need a new bedspread and new curtains I'd have to get thick carpeting and weirdo lighting. I'd have to get new friends. I'd have to get orgy friends. ... Naw, I wasn't ready for it." ;-)

    Yeah. I was pretty appalled.

I mean, sure...I'm adventurous. But I'm also conservative and she seemed to have missed that part of my personality.

It was weird.

Is anyone here on the thread leading the life they thought they would at 21? Who can remember?
 (shut up Jen)

Considering how much more of an idiot I was at 21 I hardly think that counts for much. And actually I am not all that far off from it... except the lack of wife and kids and absence of Global Domination. All things in due time...

Heh heh...you know that quote is form Seinfeld...I think of that situation whenever I see that particular episode.

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I figured that's what you meant.

How long have we been friends?

;-)

See ya later, I'm off to the store.

    Think is, I didn't
know what I wanted at 21. I mean, fercryinoutloud, I had three majors in college.
And then there was that cult thing that really screwed things up...
