The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Ditto. I'm glad I married when I did, but the crowd nowadays would be totally different.

Yum!

I'm going to try to make some graham crackers tonite. I want to make a graham cracker crust for a pie for the soiree, but I don't want store-bought crackers full of crisco.

How do you do the sourdough starter?

One cup flour, one cup warm water, 1 and a half tsp of instant yeast is how I do it. That makes about 2 cups starter.

I made it last night. I'll let it sour till in the morning and make it tomorrow.

The composition of my wedding guests would have been totally different if I had married in other phases of my life!

That's an interesting exercise!

I don't recognize that guy, but I'm sure he's authentic.

Hey, even I knew who that guy was! I don't know his name, but I know he's a big time televangelist. That's what makes it so hilarious!

Heh... it is.... I'd have become a completely different person if I'd have taken any other forks in the road I took to get here.

It's a little bit fun to look back at all the people I thought I'd be, and how none of them are right.

It gives me a little perspective on those younguns I know who think they've got things planned. (heh)

Is anyone here on the thread leading the life they thought they would at 21?

I'm at the library, but leaving now. Had to print up that sourdough recipe and my printer's out of ink. Running by the store for an onion and then back home.

See ya later.

Well, sorry, but the other threads today are just leeching weirdness away. So it's no wonder the Hole is talking about normal stuff.

I know. I just can't place him.

I bet Nana would recognize him. I'm sure Papa would have.

But I'm not showin' that to Nana.
