My auction says I accept credit cards, but I don't think my Paypal account is set up to accept credit cards...

That's the whole purpose of PayPal. You don't have an agreement (and expenses) directly with a credit card company. PayPal processes the credit card under its own name (no doubt at a favorable rate), and then transfers the cash to you. They make their money on the "float", and on the fees they receive from their bigger customers.

They make a very convincing case that their fees, especially for smaller accounts, are much better than the credit card companies offer, and allow you to legally use the credit card logos.
