The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

My job is done.

See you all tomorrow. I'll post pics after I get back with Becky from our first trail ride together!

We leave early next Thursday for two weeks! I got a map of Tokyo last night, so I'm gonna do some studying up on it.

Jeepers, that would work out to a savings of almost $6 a knife when it's all said and done. Sounds like a good deal, if you can swing the up front cost.

I think it's a great bargain.... but how about this...

You wait until we send you the whole amount. We owe you $1550 - ecurbh and I will send $100 at payday, which is all we can do. If everyone ponies up, then order the mass amount. If not, then buy what you can, I just don't want to see you spending it upfront.

What does everyone think of that?

I think that's a good way to approach it. Agreed that we don't want winmag to spend it up front.

Agreed.

That's why I wanted to know if it was a limited time offer. Give us a bit of time to get the right amount to Rick.

Good morning everyone!

Beautiful day here, I think we'll be going up to the mountain!

Talked to Ramius, they're letting him eat and hopefully today they'll let him go home...

It turned out great!

Here are some pictures...

As you can see, the jedis have no psychological problems eating the meat birds. Matthew even assisted in the processing.

I, on the other hand, am admittedly struggling. They taste delicious and I am certainly able to eat it, but I don't just scarf it down. I kinda loose my appetite.

I am aware that it's completely psychological and I'm sure I'll overcome it with time and repetition

I think that's understandable. I mean...even though you've kept in mind all this time that they're not pets, you've still gotten used to caring for them. And it's still a new experience.

Glad the boys were fine with it, though! Heh...is Joshua giving the chicken the thumbs up in that picture?

Yeah, that's what I figure. I wonder if I'd had more to care for it would have helped? And another thing. I KNOW the chicken I'm eating...if I had fifty, that might not be an issue! LOL!!

Like I say, it's good and perfectly fine food. But I gotta be honest.

Yeah, Joshua's giving the thumbs up! LOL He looks like he's been crying but it's just from where they went swimming for so long at the city pool.

Sounds good. I sent him some last week, and I'll try to send some more when I get back from Japan.

Heard anything on when you might be able to get more?

Too bad there isn't another family around who'd like to raise a few meat chickens, so you could go in together.

The guy at the feed store where we got Puffy and Benny Hen told Steve to keep checking with him, they get them in now and then.

Probably more toward Fall, I'm afraid. They don't do well in the heat of the summer and shipping them is usually catastrophic. Many hatcheries won't ship during the hottest summer months.

Just looking at Steve's online "unofficial" transcript. He started school in January of 2000. So Joshua was about 14 months old when Steve started school. Matthew had just turned four that previous August.

Now Matthew is gonna be 10 next month and Joshua will be 7 in October.
