The Hobbit Hole XXIII - Let them go! Let them go!

Posted on 07/12/2005 8:11:36 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Let them go! Let them go!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Awwww...

I really liked Bay! The others, too, but he's such a nice friendly guy!

Yawn, stretch, Gyps and I came home and crashed!! We had a great time, walked the trail and watched the kids shooting at the targets for a while. Thenewboy fed Gypsy some treats, and held her leash (that was very cute!) I was glad to finally meet the g'nads, they are a great family.

It was hot, hot, hot!!! Heat index is still about 96 degrees. Gypsy doesn't seem to anxious for her evening walk, so we'll skip it tonight (hurray!)

Oh, poor Ramius! I sure hope he gets to get out of there tomorrow!

Thanks so much for the invite to St. Helens, but unfortunately I have church duties in the am. Hopefully you will have great weather for it, and maybe she'll shoot off a little steam for you while you're there. You can think of me on the way up, I biked from about 5 miles west(?) of Hoffstadt bluffs all the way up to Johnston Ridge. I hope you get the kind of weather I got, it was stunning up there.

So sorry I won't get to join you, but have fun!!

Best wishes for Ramius' recovery!

Evenin'...just catchin' up here...

Mrs. and I went out to dinner last night since it wuz just the two of us. We splurged.

We cleaned Luke's room this morning, did a toy purge. Luke and Nana came home this afternoon. Sam is glad to see them. Everyone's home but Jr. He gets back Monday.

Ramius ~ Sorry to hear of all your troubles. Hope you're up and well soon.

g'nad/Osage/LSAggie ~ Fine pictures. Y'all looked like you had a good time. You know Osage, my ancestors were arrow makers...thus the name "Stormhands"...more or less...

Hair/ecurbh/OT ~ Glad labmoot is goin' well. I'm just here mootless in Virginia.

Suzi ~ I fergit when y'all leave for Japan (?) Have a good time if I don't talk/post to ya again.

2J ~ mmmmmmm....chickens...you done good.

Had a "chat" with the nayber about the berm situation. We compromised. I told him what I was already plannin' and I made one minor adjustment to where I'm puttin' in the border at the edge of the driveway. Still couldn't get him to see that more gravel and vegetation will slow the water and will keep back most of the erosion. But I did make it clear that I didn't want a ditch on my property.

Heh...is that like a rip-off of Jaws?

I'm having a very exciting evening. Watched a Bogey flick and I just ordered some mandolin and guitar strings. And now it's just now nine, but I'm thinking I may turn in with a book.

Wild times!

Well, we just got home from seeing "Fantastic Four". It was... ok. I think Rose liked it better than I did. Good points: the character interactions were just right, and the FF powers were done right too. Bad points: I didn't like the changes to Dr. Doom, and I don't think they made Reed smart enough. And the action seemed a little flat overall.

But in general, I think it was as good as X-Men 1... not as good as X2 or SpiderMan 2.

This has slipped my mind so many times, I figured I'd ask your opinions before I forget again.

We're down to the last 11 Camillus 409S folding knives out of 80 we've bought so far. Time to reorder.

The knife costs under $15, but laser engraving adds another $6.37 (with sales tax) to each one. That's a significant cost, but still cheaper than what we had before.

If I buy 100 at a time [gulp], Camillus will do the laser engraving for an extra 50 cents apiece. That gives us a real cash savings of almost $600 for the entire lot, which is not chicken feed. It also cuts down on the extra running around and handling I do to get the knives engraved.

The only hesitiation I have is that it increases our up-front costs. The knives may not move too fast, but they will all eventually be given away.

Is this large initial cost a good business decision?

Is this a limited time offer?

I'd love to contribute, but I have to wait until my next payday!

(((Hair)))

Prayers continue for Ramius and I can't wait to see his smiling "font" back in the Hobbit Hole. :-D

I'm heading to bed soon since tomorrow is finally the big day for the trail ride!

OT looks as lovely as ever and Bay is just lovin' on her!

No, the great thing about Camillus is we can buy as much (or as little) as we want, whenever we want. But the laser engraving would require a buy of 100 all at once.
