I'll ask my hubby if he remembers his childhood. :-)
From what I understand there is NOBODY involved with the SCA who knows about history. Pointy ears? Viking ninjas? Peace ties on weapons?
Good luck!
I'm a lapsed Scadian. My wife and I are about to rejoin.
Perhaps their headquarters can help you, or the local kingdom, barony, or household. I believe there is a directory of them on SCA's website, http://www.sca.org
LIGHTNING BOLT! LIGHTNING BOLT!
The SCA will not teach you squat about history.
Its full name is the Society for CREATIVE Anachronism.
Historicity is of zero importance to the SCA. Dressing up in armor made of jute wall covers and whacking each other with PVC pipes is far more important.
Now, what did you want to know about the Middle Ages? I'm your go-to gal for that.
When in college I used to enjoy watching the CSA folks do their thing in front of the student center.
From what (little) I've seen of the SCA, everyone who's a part of it is Caucasian-looking.
Are there any non-Caucasian-looking folks in the SCA, and what "roles" do they fit into? For example, could a black or asian member still be a "Lord Geoffrey Winterheath" or whatnot?
I know this is a weird/ignorant comment/question. No offense intended--I'm just curious.
I'm of Hungarian descent and my last name is "Magoch," but that's only because my grandfather was clearing his throat when the Ellis Island people asked him for his name....
