Today is the 4th of July 2005 – America’s Birthday which commemorates the Continental Congress adopting the Declaration of Independence on 4th July 1776.

President George W Bush commemorated the day by visiting West Virginia University Morgantown, West Virginia, he gave an address and afterward he greeted the crowd by signing autographs and shaking hands of military personnel.

It was announced today that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will visit tsunami-hit parts of Thailand next week.

On Saturday Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld acted as Grand Marshall at the Pepsi 400 NASCAR Race at Daytona.

One last article . . .

July 01, 2005, 8:19 a.m.
GEORGE W’s QUAGMIRE
DIFFERENT WAR, SAME OLD COMPLAINTS.
By Michael Graham

Philadelphia, the American Colonies, July 4, 1776 — Leaders of the self-described “American patriots” movement gathered in this Pennsylvania city today to sign an official declaration of their political intentions, despite widespread criticism of a failing war policy and complaints that their military action was launched under false pretenses.

“Here it is, July of 1776, and George W. and his lackeys are just now getting around to declaring what this war is supposedly all about?” complained Loyalist playwright Michael LeMoore. “Washington and his neo-congressionalists rushed us into war at Lexington and Concord, before anyone had ‘declared’ a single word about independence. Face it: George lied, and people died.”

Here's an interesting genealogy link, regardless of how much you know about your family tree. I think GWB is included here:

Ahh wish I was there..... One day maybe! I always said I wanted to visit the States during a Presidential election, but I'm not sure any more... I am afraid I won't like the next President. How can it get any better? I'll be praying with you for their safety over the next days of travelling.

FoxNews could use this picture. It is so much better than the washed out one that they put on the screen again and again.

Boy do I agree with you on that! I wrote to FOX, and asked if they would please find another more flattering picture. I mean one has to work quite hard to find one that's not good, but they managed to do it. He's such a handsome man, and there are thousands of great pictures of him, that's just not one of them.

I'm trying to find out the connection between Barbara Pierce Bush and Franklin Pierce, the 14th President of the US

I believe Barbara is descended from President Pierce's line-- but I didn't go into her side of the family because I don't think I'm related to her. But I don't rule it out!!

It really IS fun. R.E.Lee's gg-grandfather, Robert "King" Carter who was also a governor of Virginia, married my 8th great-grandmother's niece in 1688. Governor Carter's son John married Ann Hill of Shirley Plantation

This must drive your NJ bunch crazy. LOL :-)

Bridewell , area in London, England, between Fleet St. and the Thames River. The Bridewell house of correction, demolished in 1863, was on the site of a palace built under Henry VIII and given by Edward VI to the City of London in 1553 for use as a training school for homeless apprentices. The building later became a prison. Bridewell thus came to be used as a general term for a prison or house of correction.
