LOS ANGELES -- Teachers are expected to bear long days, challenging students and demanding parents. Now, apparently, some teachers are baring too much of themselves. School boards and superintendents increasingly are pursuing dress codes for teachers. At issue is the same kind of questionable attire most often associated with students.
In some districts, teachers can get dressed down for wearing skimpy tops, short skirts, flip flops, jeans, T-shirts, spandex or baseball caps. Spaghetti is fine in the cafeteria, but shirts supported by spaghetti straps are not welcome in the classroom.
District 11 in Colorado Springs, Colo., for example, prohibits sexually provocative items. That includes clothing that exposes "cleavage, private parts, the midriff or undergarments," district rules say.
In Georgia's Miller County, skirts must reach the knee. Elsewhere in the state, hair curlers are disallowed in Harris County and male teachers in Talbot County must wear ties two or three times a week.

How else are the female teachers supposed to pick up the young teenage boys they teach? The can't possibly compete if they're dressed up like an old fashioned school marm, can they?

Very hard to read the story when it begins with such a falsehood.
My mom taught in the public schools for 30 years.
She was home AND ASLEEP every day by 3:30 in the afternoon.
Didn't teach too much then did she?
Uniforms for the kids, uniforms for the staff.

She looks like an court jester in that outfit. I guess it's supposed to qualify as "slut chic."

The rest of the outfit...I'm at a loss to explain. Especially the tights.
Surely there's not a male over 5 in the U.S. who hasn't seen a girl's naked behind (as well as befront) so I'm at a loss to comprehend their willingness to watch Brittney Spears - maybe even with the sound on! - just in case her pants fall down this time.
Contrary to opinion, female teachers do not need to wear provocative clothing to get male student's attention. I had no problem paying attention to my very over-weight geometry teacher. The reason a female wears provocative clothing is to advertise their body. What reason should a teacher have to advertise her body? None. So there shouldn't even be a fight over this.
Maybe she needs a big boost in the self esteem department.
Funny you should put it that way. If Mr. Gun thinks what 15-yr old daughter is wearing is too risque (which thankfully is rare due to her discernment abilities), he says, "that's not a [insert dress, skirt, etc.], it's an advertisement."
We may be a few years apart, RC, but I know even when you were young we would have considered her "get up" to be just plain "bad taste."
