You see, these are the kinds of conversations we need here.

This is important stuff your asking.

I don't know why not, but hey, we need answers to this and other questions.

Like, why do people get freaked out when they Mix Peanut Butter and Jelly in the same jar, but will spread them on two pieces of bread, slam them together and then eat it.

I DEMAND ANSWERS......

I want to know why you can't eat just one potato chip,...

Your want for knowledge is synonymous with the reason that "Nobody can eat just one".

You just want more when the one "chip" is lacking fulfillment.

Why is it that when you have sex with a Chinese girl you feel full but three hours later you're hungry again.

Maybe it's really a matter of an inbred instinct to eat one entire potato. You know that a single french fry is really just a fraction of a potato and your subconscious is causing your body to try and gather the proteins and starches from and entire tater.

It's an ancient survival instinct. When ancient man found a potato he ate the entire thing because he realized that he may go many days without finding another potato and starvation was a real concern.

On the other hand it could be that the potatochip industrial complex is lacing your chips with a highly addictive cancer causing agent developed by pharmaceutical corporations to force you to buy their cancer drugs. Or maybe it's the JOOOOS

If you eat a fuzzy, green potato chip, I guarantee that you'll only want one.

MSG.

I believe that no one knows how it works but it enhances flavor and it's in everything, just about.

I have no problem accepting that since MSG was introduced in our processed foods in the 1950s that there have been widespread health problems such as obesity and the problems that leads to -- gross obesity and insulin resistant diabetes (Type 2 diabetes, I believe that's called) is certainly widespread today.

"monosodium glutamate" is in just about everything in the supermarket. It is not always defined as such however.

In California it's sprayed on a number of vegatables and fruits:

http://www.cdpr.ca.gov/cgi-bin/label/label.pl?typ=pir&prodno=46388

The spray is about 30% Glutamic acid a.k.a. glutamate - the most common excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain.

More definitions from the web: "Ionic salts of glutamic acid used as flavor enhancers in many foods. Glutamate is usually manufactured by acid hydrolysis of vegetable proteins. Besides being a basic building block of proteins, glutamate functions as a neurotransmitter that helps neurons grow new connections; as such, glutamate plays an important role in learning and memory. At high concentrations, glutamate can function as an excitotoxin."

Look for something like "hydrolysis" in the list of ingrediants if MSG is not listed.

I will defer to the experts. Regardless I will continue to try to avoid MSG additives.
