Why Can't You Eat Just One Potato Chip?
See Body of Thread | April 1, 2005 | Torie

Torie graciously is letting me use his computer. I want to know why you can't eat just one potato chip, or as Dan Quayle once asked, is it "potatoe?"

Well Szechuan is a bit spicey but with Vietnamese you get the Imperial Roll.

The Jooos angle is interesting. That requires research. Are the Jooos infiltrating Idaho?

And then there is curry. I asked for mine spicy, a few nights ago, at an Indian reastaurant. 10 Rolaids later in the dark of the night, I was still cursing the night until it was blue.

Always ask for medium hot in an Indian Restaurant.

If you are white and ask for spicy Indians view it as a disclaimer and the opportunity to play a joke on you.

I once did an Indian Smorgasbord: Dal, Chapatis, Tandoori and a side of rice with green peppers.

The peppers were raw Jalapenos. The Indians don't even grow Jalapenos.

Obviously an intensional joke at my expense.

Jokes on me, I went to a site and it managed to load a pile of virus and spyware onto my machine under the firewall.

Picking it off, one by one, running the anti virus, running the not free ad aware.

damn

If you eat a fuzzy, green potato chip, I guarantee that you'll only want one.

MSG.

I believe that no one knows how it works but it enhances flavor and it's in everything, just about.

I have no problem accepting that since MSG was introduced in our processed foods in the 1950s that there have been widespread health problems such as obesity and the problems that leads to -- gross obesity and insulin resistant diabetes (Type 2 diabetes, I believe that's called) is certainly widespread today.

"monosodium glutamate" is in just about everything in the supermarket. It is not always defined as such however.

In California it's sprayed on a number of vegatables and fruits:

http://www.cdpr.ca.gov/cgi-bin/label/label.pl?typ=pir&prodno=46388

The spray is about 30% Glutamic acid a.k.a. glutamate - the most common excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain.

More definitions from the web: "Ionic salts of glutamic acid used as flavor enhancers in many foods. Glutamate is usually manufactured by acid hydrolysis of vegetable proteins. Besides being a basic building block of proteins, glutamate functions as a neurotransmitter that helps neurons grow new connections; as such, glutamate plays an important role in learning and memory. At high concentrations, glutamate can function as an excitotoxin."

Look for something like "hydrolysis" in the list of ingrediants if MSG is not listed.

I will defer to the experts. Regardless I will continue to try to avoid MSG additives.

Apparently there are 13 steps rather than 12. Is that to code?

Apparently there are 13 steps rather than 12.

Actually, curiously, I *have* heard of the 13th Step.

But usually it involves a Newcomer and a mattress.
