Morning Everyone - the coffee's on!
I like to take day (or just a few hours) trips to our town beach.
I obviously have not had enough coffee this Morning.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish the United States of America a happy birthday.
And wish all of you a fun and safe 4th of July weekend.
I hope everyone will take a moment while bar-b-quing or watching fireworks this weekend and say a prayer of thanks for our great nation and the men and women currently serving to keep it so as well as to those who helped shape her so.
See you there this weekend. I'll be be wearing my red, white and blue tee-shirt that says "Liberals Suck." Come and say Hi!
My wife and I sometimes make the spur of the moment decision to drive across the state to the lake michigan shore and spend the day.
Sometimes we'll grab a niece or nephew and drive down to the Toledo zoo or over to Greenfield village.
We tend to do the day trip thing too and do a big vacation trip every other year typically. We're kind of in a nice situation for day trips since the Pacific Ocean is only 2 hours away to the west, Canada is 6 hours to the north and we live in the foothills of Mt Rainier so even winter fun and summer hikes are little more than an hour away
I am LMAO at your tagline!! I could play that song for ya if you'd like??
Day trips: I think I'm just the opposite of you. I LOVE to travel ~ and a day trip is stressful for me ~ I think maybe I don't plan well enough because I think "it's only a day" and I just throw stuff together. But for a weekly vacation I am armed to the teeth with plans! LOL!!
The only day trip type of stuff we do are things like the zoo, a local park, etc. And those are usually me only with the kids and during the week. MAybe that's why they're stressful?? He he he!! This fall, though, we start American History and I am looking around to see what kinds of things we can do related to that ~ some will involve a little driving I think.
Actually, rather than a day trip, I'd rather sit at home and swim. :o)
Ok, now I'm tired. Gotta get coffee...
"When we lived in Georgia and North Carolina we took lots of day trips! To the beach, to the mountains. Whatever sounded good in the morning! We hit every minor league baseball team within a 200 mile drive! Ah, the memories. Now we pretty much stay at home! I'm a home owner's widow! We never get to go anywhere because there are too many projects around this little fixer-upper we live in!
I'd say we probably prefer the at least somewhat longer trips, a night or two or more.
Oh, well, yes, on second thought: we're about an hour from the foothills of the Sierra. I do have some favorite spots to go there, for snow in the winter, for lakes, streams and prettiness the rest of the time. I take various configurations of the wife and kids, or no one.

We live in the Keystone State of PA and like to take trips up to the wine country of New York's Finger Lakes. We stay at an incredible B&B called the Log Country Inn. It is run by a polish woman and her family. It is inexpensive, relatively close (1.25 hour drive from us), and she makes an incredible european breakfast.
To save money, we pack a picnic basket of non-perishables, like pasta salad and fried chicken and just drive around to see what we can find. Last time, we went to five wineries and even a farm that makes cheese. Yummy samples.
With gas prices as they are, it is hard to go very far, even in a compact car. So we focus some day trips on just taking a road never traveled. We are lucky to have so many rural areas close by, usually within 20 minutes.
We sometimes go on "posted" land to sit and watch a stream. I've found that if you take garbage OUT that others have left behind, the owners of the property, if they happen upon you, will be kind and grateful for helping to clean their property. I've never had a problem. It also helps to not bring alcoholic beverages, since many people like to party and leave a mess behind. But I find a bottle of Boone's farms is alright to bring, as its just ONE bottle and easy to take along with you when you leave.
Everyone, please try to clean up after yourselves. Take an extra bag and leave a natural area better than you found it. And buckle up, ESPECIALLY the kids, on this holiday weekend. Hang up and drive. There is so much beauty one misses while talking on the phone. Not to mention, traffic will be heavy this weekend, and others may not be paying attention.
Happy Fourth to ALL!

Good Morning!
We took a day trip yesterday to Perryville MO....blueberry picking and then a picnic lunch, then to the National Shrine of the Miraculous Medal (also in Perryville).
Then home for a dinner of blueberry pancakes! :)
Longebarger baskets in Dresden, Ohio. We go every year to make a basket. I also like the velvet ice cream factory.
I take Evie into COSI, the science center, and the zoo every few weeks, but those are big days for a one year old!!!
Oh yeah, Evie turned one this past monday, I can remember posting her birth here! I can't believe it's been a year!
Hi Gabz and friends...
Living in Florida, we are so lucky to have lots of day trips available! Orlando and all it's wonders are only about an hour and a half away, and we have Busch Gardens, a great zoo, aquariums, wonderful kid's museums, world class beaches, state parks, Kennedy Space Center, Cocoa Beach, St. Augustine, Sanibel Island, etc...
We always marvel that people come from all around the country and world to visit our area. I get family memberships to the zoo, museum, aquarium, state parks, etc... and annual passes to the theme parks and we always have our options open!
