Good morning and thanks for starting this thread! It is dreary and raining, but at least I don't have to water, LOL!

And the President's speech last night was WONDERFUL! I know that some refuse to give him credit for his sweeping, almost poetic, phrasing, but it touches my heart to hear such beautiful words from such a great man.

Even though my mom complains about the President's smirk, she does think he is an honest man.

Me, too, and contrary to many critics, I think he is a wonderful speaker. Besides, I like his voice...reminds me of my dad, who grew up in Texas.

It turns out that that is another Sandra O'Connor, a Baltimore city official.

France chose not to go to war because it believed that a) peaceful means of avoiding war had not been exhausted and b) Iraq didn't pose a threat.

Or maybe they didn't want to get off the Saddam gravy train aka "Oil for Food".

Whenever I don't get a chance to check the thread until late morning and see it's into the 200's, I know immediately that there must be a troll buzzing the thread. LOL!

That's interesting that McCain would say anything positive about the President.

I am going to go get some work done around here. It is too hot and humid outside for me to garden.

I did a double take when I saw my ping at #2 and then noticed the thread (YOUR thread...lol) already had over 250 replies. When I got to your #64 I scared the dog with my laughing. "Blood and Guts Marple" --- I read early on in the thread where Dog kidded you and called you B&G Marple.

I wouldn't work as a mover for $25K a day. I am getting pretty good at moving stuff with a dolly. I have the driveway filled with the final donations to the American Vets and for the first time, I did NOT get winded moving all the stuff. I think this move has strengthened me and revived long dormant muscles....lol. I plan to sit here at the computer until my ex-dil calls me. She is coming here today to help me pack the last of the paintings and my personal possessions, except this computer. It will go on the moving van last --- last on - first off.

Unfortunately, most of the ones I thought of were obscene and would get me banned. Here are a couple of marginally decent (although completely tasteless) ones that came to mind:

Janet Reno's Flambeed Bananas Waco (for those who like to set things on fire)
Slick Willy's Spotted Dick (Spotted Dick is a REAL dessert name in Britain, LOL!)
Dicky Durbin's Trifling Fool (Layers and layers of fool in a glass bowl)
DNC Fruitloop Granola (Fruitloops and nuts abound! Moonbats extra.)

LOL, I took my 14 year old nephew and niece to London several years ago. They both just about bought out all the Spotted Dick from Forum & Masons.

The first attack on the Trade Centre was carried out by a couple of terrorists in 1993 with the aim of curbing US support for Israel.

A "couple of terrorists"? I think not:

The World Trade Center Bombing

excerpts:

...the JTTF apprehended four individuals responsible for the attack. The suspects went on trial on September 13, 1993. The trial lasted 6 months with the presentation of 204 witnesses and more than 1,000 pieces of evidence. A jury convicted the four defendants on March 4, 1994, in federal court on all 38 counts against them. On May 25, 1994, a judge sentenced each of the four defendants to 240 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. On February 7, 1995, authorities in Pakistan arrested the prime fugitive wanted in connection with the bombing and subsequently rendered him to U.S. authorities. This suspect, the mastermind behind the bombing, was sentenced to 240 years in prison on January 8, 1998.

...

The suspect and his associates had hoped to kill upwards of 35,000 innocent people

~snip~

It is well established that the 9/11 attacks were to finish what they started.

We went to war with Iraq ten years later.

Oh yes, Bush just went into Iraq out of the blue.

Baghdad bombing: The right move, the wrong time

(You'll like the source I picked)

excerpts:

On Wednesday, Americans awoke to morning newspapers awash in impeachment headlines. By afternoon they were watching the darkened skies of Baghdad illuminated by the orange glow of U.S. bombs.

...

In a speech to the nation, President Clinton defended his attack on Iraq, saying a "strong, sustained series of airstrikes" against Iraq was necessary to punish Saddam Hussein for his refusal to comply with U.N. weapons inspectors.

~snip~

I read that earlier this morning on the link you provided on another thread. Pretty good thinking, IMHO.

You can tell people are going after the war supporters...we must have 20 disruptors a day now telling us "I voted for Bush, BUT..."

If the America had gone into Germany in 1939, perhaps all of those death camps wouldn't have been so efficient!

Did you know that in 1938, as opposition leader in England, Winston Churchill urged the British and French to attack Hitler, and remove him from power. One of the arguments used against Churchill was it would cost at least 2,000 British lives. Does that sound familiar? They felt that Hitler was just a dumb Austrian Corporal and he could be handled with diplomacy. They felt it would take decades for Germany to acquire the military power to take on England and France. It took about 3 years.

The French and English governments as well as the United States media did not think Hitler was a real threat. In 1938 Hitler made a speech in which he said he intended to conquer all of Europe and kill all the Jews. CBS reported what Hitler said, and then added the remark that Hitler was obviously playing to his base... The real question CBS asked, was "What did Hitler really intend to do?" The answer was conquer Europe and Kill all the Jews... but that logic escaped the US media.

The French and English Governments firmly believed that using force to prevent WWII was not something France and Germany would moraly do. I wonder if any of the 50 million people who died in WWII would disagree.

It is interesting to note that 8 years later after the loss of life in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy the D Day invasion of Normandy cost 50,000 lives in just hours. By the Sumner of 1944, 2000 lives to remover Hitler did not look costly at all.

It is worth noting that over 2000 troops were lost in Germany in the two years after Germany surrendered.

I wonder what today's media would think about us occupying Japan for five years after Japan surrendered? American General Douglas MacArthur wrote the Japanese constitution and was in effect the Japanese ruler from the fall of 1945 until the early 1950s. It was 5 long years before we pulled our troops out of Japan and allowed the Japanese self Government.

Most people don't understand why it took years to get Germany and Japan in a position to govern themselves. The reason is the old regime had to be disbanded. Hitlers Army and police could not be left in control. The Japanese ruling class had to be removed from power and new leaders and staff trained. It takes years to train new police and military. We had to train new leaders. We had to train local people to train new German police. The same was true in Japan. If it takes 4 years of college to train an elementary school teacher, how long does it take to train people to run a country. We can not leave the old regime in charge... The victory would have been worthless. It takes a long time to train leaders and then train staff.

The Democrats know this. They just believe the average American is too stupid to know the truth.

The Democrats always make the same mistake. They think the process can be more quickly completed with more money and people. That is akin to arguing that if one woman can produce a baby in nine months then nine woman can produce a baby in one month.

The Democrats depend on us being as ignorant of the problems and solutions as they thing we are.
