I should have posted that to everyone on the thread ..if you have a suggestion for me...speak up.
As Chairman stated, check for whitish water lines in the basement.
I would also ask how recent the electrical/plumbing has been updated if at all.
A chance of a lifetime for someone.
Oh my goodness! What an opportunity!
Ask about the electrical system, plumbing and waste disposal, the water heater, insulation and Ventilation, the HVAC system, water source and quality, the potential presence of pests, the foundation, doors, windows, ceilings, walls, floors, and roof.
Before signing a purchase offer make sure you find out what stays (ie washer, dryer, stove, refrig, etc.) and what doesn't. It should state that in the offer.
Does it have a basement? Check for dryness.
What about the wiring in a house that old. Recent upgrades?
Firestone Park in Akron is where a lot of policemen live, and it's considered desirable, with stable property values.
Nice try...:-)
Very hot here. I don't mind it, but G has to work in this. To get to his current job site he has to walk up a huge hill.
Okay. Ask if there are nearby hotels. ;-)
Things to ask about the house:
How old is the roof?
Fuse box or breaker box?(You want breaker.)
Average heating bill in winter?
How old is the heating system?
Is the plumbing fairly recent, or original to the house?
Windows...original or new?
Insulation...has any been blown into the sides of the house or is it just in the attic? (I lived in a 1939 Cape Cod once with original windows and no sidewall insulation. It got COLD in the winter!)
Check closet space for adequate storage. Older homes have small closets.
Be sure you check that basement, as Chairman said. If it has that "mildewy" smell it has had water at some point.
That's all I can think of right now. I will probably think of some more later.
Oh, like lysie said, ask about nearby hotels. You DO realize that we are itching to do a total house makeover, don't you? Heheheh.
But....while I was trying to catch him I saw that a lily I have had for 3 years is blossoming....it's white. I am so happy. I borrowed this from the river. Doesn't take a lot to make me happy.
Yes, we are. How great would that be? ;-)
Wouldn't it be fun to do Dog's house? We could also relandscape it!
2 more things...ask about anything semi-permanently attached to the walls...like book cases, window treatments....are they included or are the owners taking those? Don't make assumptions..
& as for appliances...sometimes the sellers can leave those behind for a small price -used, remember - saves you trouble if you need them, and they may decide they don't want to take them.
Jane look at the photo of the house again I posted yesterday....what kind of plants are they near the front porch.
"This is U2's Bono on Meet the Press yesterday:
" Well, I think [President Bush has] done an incredible job, his administration, on AIDS. And 250,000 Africans are on antiviral drugs. They literally owe their lives to America. In one year that's being done. Yes, there's a lot of pressure on President Bush. If he, though, in his second term, is as bold in his commitments to Africa as he was in the first term, he indeed deserves a place in history in turning the fate of that continent around."
Wow! Good for Bono.
lysie: Didja know KU is performing with the Live 8 group???:-)
