Very Important Privacy Issue

Beginning May 2005, a new database has been available to the general public, free of charge, that displays your personal information: (names, addresses, phone numbers, birth dates). Names of many people whom I know are there, and so are many of yours.

The database is found at http://www.zabasearch.com/. I urge you to send this information to family and friends. Check to see if your name and information is in their database.

If so and you want it removed, send them an e-mail at info@zabasearch.com to request that your name be removed.

I do not know how our names are appearing there, but I checked my own and a few other random ones, and they are all in this database!

After opting out by email, check back after a few days to make certain your information has been removed.

Displaying such information should be a crime - but it apparently is not.

It still makes me very nervous. Just what is all this yelling and screaming about the "invasion of privacy" of the Patriot Act, when this kind of dissemination of private, personal information is now the "new normal?"

This is total bullshit. I ran all kinds of people through there, and guess what? You can hunt down anyone you want to! This just makes my day, and they can take that email request form and shove it where the sun don't shine. Who do I complain to, because they're literally blackmailing people for more personal info!

Maybe we should jam their servers demanding that they take our info off the web...

i don't get it, my name and my address is there. big freeking deal. what so scaring about that? if you buy the background info it will just be a bunch of public record stuff.

If it's based on phonebooks, why does my name and ex's old address show up? It's the address he shared with his mom and brother while we were separated. I don't like this one bit.

I clicked on the "privacy" link at the bottom of their site. There is an article by an atty. explaining (not condoning) why this is legal! And also how to have your info. removed. But, that seems stupid, since you have to provide more info. to do that! Ugh.

I am not listed since I remarried and we have an unlisted phone. My husband is, with an old number, however. As are my children....all of their addresses: when they lived at home, through college, and where they live now. That makes me really nervous. My daughter was even listed under her maiden name, and her married name. I just put in her married name, but the other appeared also.

However, I did a "People Search" on Yahoo and found pretty much the same info. So not much difference. And Yahoo has had this for years.

Of course I don't know what I would get if I spent the $20 bucks. I will let my kids decide what they want to do about removing their names.

Fair question. Let me rephrase my post.
"This data base is the same as the last time this link was posted on FR, the records shown for me are at least 5 years old."

As is mentioned this appears to be "bot" gathered telephone listings. The revenue is garnered by clicking on the links asking for further information. Nothing wrong with the business model. Relatively simple.
