Who Would You Choose to Have a Beer With? (past or present)
Beer Addled Brain | 6/12/05 | Pissant

Some of our most cherished memories in life revolve around sharing a drink with loved ones and friends. A fine bottle of Cabernet with your spouse on your anniversary. A 12 year old scotch with your father. Shots of tequila with the girl you've been after for months. Etc, Etc.

There are certainly people in our history and living today, that I would give my left nu.., er little toe, to share a beer and a long-winded conversation with. The following is off the top of my head, and hundreds more could be included:

LIVING:

3. Bob Dylan - my all time favorite enigmatic musician

2. Donald Rumsfeld - A real man amongst girly men

1. Mark Steyn - perhaps the most insightful, wittiest man on the planet

DEAD

3. Ernest Hemmingway - one of the few writers of fiction I love.

2. Ronald Reagan - The hero of our times

1. Ben Franklin - My alltime favorite historical figure.

It's not so much the brawl that's fun, but the challenge of sneaking back into said bar afterwards to light off a military style smoke bomb as retaliation.

You did that in a bar, huh?  I did that here at  the office when I felt some unkind things were insinuated during my employee evaluation.

(If what I just wrote makes you sad or angry,

 it was probably sarcasm)

Some would howl about your mention of having a beer with Jesus, but from my reading of the Bible, he really would have had a beer at the local Pub. He wouldn't have drank to the point of drunkeness, but who can say that he who turned the water into wine, would turn up his nose at the thought of sharing a beer with someone?

Yeah, what's great is the typical assumption on behalf of patrons that it's actually tear gas from a riot squad showing up way too late for the fight. All kinds of panic.

Cleopatra (or Elizabeth Taylor, come to think of it)
Mary Queen of Scots
Catherine the Great
Marie Antionette
Queens Elizabeth I and II
(to talk about what it was like being a monarch, & erm, and about the cool clothes, jewelry and other perks)
Princess Diana (to trash Charles and talk about shopping)

Vita Sackville-West (to pick her brain about gardening)
Margaret Mitchell (to talk her out of writing GWTW, or at least making Scarlette less stupid)
Charlotte Bronte (to thank her for writing Jane Eyre)
Dara Joy (just to say thank you for writing)

My first late hubby Freddy
My grandma Zip ('cept she didn't drink)
My great-great-great Granny- a french maid who found herself in a South Georgia swamp (if she didn't drink before, I'm sure she did after landing).

Living-
Anne Coulter, Laura Ingram or Michelle Malkin
Morocco or "Aunty Rocky"
Delilah of Seattle (total wackaloon, but I would love to hang out with her)
Jill Conner-Brown (cuz I know she would be a hoot!)
NORM ABRAM!!! (Just to pick his brain about making stuff)
My high-school buddy Steve
That cute LEO in Garden City with the Harley
All my Hunk Ping Buddies!

Hmm... I'll be having soda, but I'd be having soda at least with a group of at least a few hundred FReepers.

Deceased, I'd lift a mug with the Founders if I could.
Maybe even pick the brain of Nathan Hale.

Then fast forward to the soldiers who have gone before and thank them for what they did for us.

;-)

(I know, 'soda'? I metabolize stuff weird.)

Darlin',
I would love to hang out with you---

But we might as well do it in front of the police station and then just walk ourselves over ;)

When out toasting with friends, it does not matter what is in the glass. The sentiment of the toast is all that matters!
