I am making a request to my FReeper friends for prayers for my husband's cousin and his newborn baby.
Baby Ella Mae was born yesterday at a healthy 8 lbs. 3 oz. However she developed an infection which they believe may be a staph infection and has been struggling since birth. She is currently on intravenous antibiotics.
Please say a prayer for precious Ella Mae that she will be well and go home with her mother and father soon. Ella Mae is their firts child.
Also, can any medical field FReepers fill me in on how serious this can be?

Update on Ella Mae:
Thank you all so much for your loving prayers. It seems to be working! Word last night was that Ella Mae was strong and seem to be responding to the antibiotics. We are still awaiting test results which should come in later today on what the infection actually is, staph or not. She will remain on antibiotics in the hospital for 10 days and we are hopeful she will recover.
I will keep you all posted when we recieve more information.

Praise GOD for this good news!!!
My young son has been on IV antibiotics many many times.
Staph is on the skin so you can get a false positive on it from contamination when the blood sample is taken. We would breath a sigh of relief it things started getting better (stopped spiking fevers) because that would mean that the correct antibiotic was being used or it was just a false positive. Depending upon the situation they would run through the full 10 day antibiotic course just to be safe.
I'm glad to hear the little Ella Mae is getting better. She and her family will be in my prayers.

Thank you all for your continuing prayers. Ella Mae continues to improve and may get to go home earlier than expected.
You have all been very helpful and I appreciate it so much, and so do Ella Mae and her parents, if they could thank you themselves, they surely would.
My prayers are with this child.
Good news! Ella Mae is going home today! She is eating well and is ready to go home with her very happy mom and dad.
Thank you to you all for your prayers. You helped pull this sweet angel through a very tough beginning.
