It is amazing how many people never shut down their computers daily for a fresh boot.

A computer should be shut down and rebooted at least once a day (or once every 8 hours).

Exactly. It's also the first thing I do when any problem arises.

Really, that much? I reboot every few days, but never once a day. I'm surprised at the number of people who never reboot, run scandisk/defrag etc. It's just simple maintenance.

Of course, it doesn't hurt to do it every day.

"A computer should be shut down and rebooted at least once a day (or once every 8 hours)."

Rebooting every 8 hours is a little obsessive. Reminds of when I was tweaking my registry a dozen times a day! :)

The last time I had to reboot every day to have peak performance was when I was using windows 98.

Now I'm using Linux and the only time I ever have to reboot is if I accidentally kick my graphic card and it locks up on me (my computer doesn't have the entire case on it, so sometimes I kick the card, whoops).

But even one WindowsXP or 2000, you do not NEED to reboot on a daily basis. I have had XP run for WEEKS at a time without needing a reboot.
