NEW YORK (AP) - The actor Russell Crowe was arrested Monday morning for allegedly throwing a telephone at an employee of the Manhattan hotel where he was staying, police said.
Crowe, 41, who plays a boxer in his latest film "Cinderella Man," allegedly threw the phone at the Mercer Hotel employee, striking him in the face, during an argument at around 4:20 a.m., said police spokesman Sgt. Mike Wysokowski.
The Australian movie star was arrested and charged by police with second degree assault, Wysokowski said. Crowe was expected to appear in Manhattan Criminal Court later on Monday.
An employee who answered the phone at the Mercer Hotel in SoHo said he was unaware of the incident.
Crowe won the Academy Award for best actor for "Gladiator" in 2001.
Here I sit in my air condioned office, sweating like Ted Striker from Airplane! No YOU behave! :)
I also enjoy watching Ed Harris, William H. Macy & Kevin Spacey. Oh, and Anthony Hopkins.

Surely, you must be joking....
I'm not joking and don't call me Shirley.
Damn, I keep thinking of more.
I just watched The Aviator & Leonardo DiCaprio is a fantatstic actor. Also, Johnny Depp is always interesting to watch.
William H. Macy is a brilliant actor. He can play such versatile roles.
I LOVED him in Fargo.
I despise Johnny Depp's politics, which makes him hard to watch for me sometimes. However, having said that, I just saw Pirates of the Carribean and Finding Neverland. He was fabulous in both. Finding Neverland was a very moving story.
OMGG ES I was thinking of this when I read on Reuters ET wire YEAHH Russell Crowe Fighting around the world who he going take on NEXT Tim Robbins LOL!
I do NOT have a drinking problem! (splash)
LOL! Looks like I picked the wrong week to give up amphetamines.
Can't see Gary Cooper ever pulling a stunt like this!
Taking one for the team, eh? ;-P
We'll have to hold a lottery for who gets to be bait.
If I stopped watching all actors whose politics I despised....there would be only 2 or 3 to watch. I have not seen Neverland....I guess I will rent it this week.
It'll end up being his parents fault.
What, you don't think he was up for an early morning jog, bible study and prayer?
If even that many. We saw Cinderella Man yesterday. It is fantastic. Not a bad thing to say about it. Hollywood should make more movies like this one. It is so positive that I can't believe it was made in 2005.
It looks wonderful- very authentic. It is what I imagine 1933 and 1934 looked like in every aspect. The early parts of the movie where they are having a hard time paying their bills and finding work really upset me (I cry at everything anyway LOL), because I thought of all the stories my grandparents told about the Depression and how hard times were for them.
I'm normally pretty critical of Hollywood and actors, but this is a movie worth seeing.
I believed a well placed sucker kick would send all those boxing lessons back to insignificance.
Born in New Zealand in sixty-four
A hot-headed actor named Russell Crowe
He loves to act but he loves one thing more:
Fight-in' Round The World
He fight his directors and he fights his fans
It's a problem no one understands
If there's two things he love it's fighting and,
Fight-in' Round The World
Makin' movies, makin' music and
Fight-in' Round The World!
Russell Crowe!
Exit
Tugger's whistle's blowin'
Means we must be goin'
No more Russell Crowein' for you.
But now don't you start to whine
I'll see ya again next time.
'Cause there's plenty a-more a-foightin' left to do.
Makin' movies, makin' songs, an' foightin' round the world.

I'm glad to see Duvall in your list. He's been around a very long time, and has excelled in every movie I've seen him in, often overshadowing the stars ("Falling Down" anyone?), yet he's rarely mentioned in favorite actor lists.
However, I don't like Hanks anymore, at least not since he became a big shot and stopped trying to act.
No, that was a South Park episode. (heh heh)
