Forrest Gump's mother told him: "Life is like a box of chocolates... ." My own mother told me: "Honey child, there's a thin line between love and hate." What words of wisdom did your mother or loved one impress upon you? Anyone?
Daddy said, "Always buy Quaker State motor oil for your car. If it doesn't say Quaker State it is no fit for your engine.!"
Mama said, "You can always tell who your friends are when you have trouble. They stick by you."
Daddy said, "God never comes too early and He never comes too late. You just have to remind him you are on EST sometimes."
But the best one: Mama said, "Never tell a lie because it puts a black mark on your soul each time you do."
And the funniest, most stupid, one was what a nun told me in second grade. "Don't chew your erasers off your pencils. If you do, when you die and get to the gates of Heaven, the devil will come with a bag of chewed erasers and you won't get in because you were wasteful!!!" Imagine telling that to a class of second-graders. We were petrified! But, know what, it worked till I was about 13! LOL
My Mama told me to "always mix the corn starch in cold water before adding to the grease to make gravy. If you mix the corn starch in hot water it will make clumps."
There is no such thing as a "best friend".
You can never truly trust anyone but your family, and even that has it's risks.
Don't ever believe that you need a man to make it in life.
*Sounds a bit cynical, I know, but she is a very practical woman and very kind. Just experienced her share of pain.
"I'm doing this for your own good. If I didn't love you, I'd let you do whatever you wanted to do no matter how much it hurt you."
My mama always said...
"Close that door! We can't afford to cool/heat the entire neighborhood!"
Her advice - "Don't give anything away - sell it."
Thanks for the ping. I can't remember my Mother saying any things like that, LOL. Maybe something will come to me??
Better yet, I followed his advice...lol. One in particular. LOL!
LOL!
Not Piggly Wiggly?
BTW, this was a fun thread and I think your post about your mama's words of wisdom ring the truest of all:
"Honey child, there's a thin line between love and hate."
LOL....good one for the eye rolling syndrome. I shall remember....
My husband says: Never tell anyone something you don't won't anyone else to know.
I've been married 25 years (I think), and now I know what mamma said; There's a fine line between love and hate.
When one is indifferent, there are no feelings at all.
No, not the Piggly Wiggly, the A&P.
Oh, and daddy said never by a FORD: Fix or Repair Daily.
thank you, Judith Anne, for your lovely hands. They're wise, I'm sure.
Mamma taught me NEVER to clean my plate. Always leave something for Ms. Manners.
To this day, I tell my daughters to leave something for Ms. Manners.
Good advice.
FORD - "fix or repair daily" was told to me by a man I knew in Memphis...lol. Of course he owned one.
