The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Yeah, work league. I am not that great though I have gotten a lot better in the 5 years now I have been playing. Never did much playing catch when I was younger. Kinda funny since my granddad was in the minors and my great granddad is in the hall of fame.

I have a tendency to get swept up in something and obsess on it for a bit.

We were gonna just let them discover that for themselves! :~D

Back when ecurbh and I said gushy stuff like that, the thread gave us a really hard time about it.

Back when we were posting stuff like this... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/957942/posts?page=16747#16747

They taste better (cooked) than Hoppe's No. 9.

My dad never quite got over his boyhood dream of playing major-league baseball. When I was in elementary school he coached my girl's softball team. I was rather dreadful, but it was fun.

The last game I played in was a school picnic game, grads/faculty against undergrad. It was given up in the second inning when the department vice-chair collapsed on the field.

Would love to have an excuse to buy a glove and hurl little round things at peoples' heads again. Maybe a church league at some point.

I have very courteous and polite friends who at least give the appearance of interest!

You make me laugh.

I don't pretend. Either I nod off or I ask a thousand questions.

My mother had chickens in her back yard during the depression and all my life she told me how tasty they were. She had layin' hens and broilers.

And I live in the country. And cyborg has already raised chickens (on Long Island yet!). Ask her about the big gay cock named Rupert (IIRC). When he was killed, it was a hate crime!

LOL I sure hope I have this right...

Is "backgammon" some kind of euphemism?

Because I can be a very blunt person, and I could use a few good euphemisms....

If they do, I think I know someone who'll have one...

Maybe just in time for Shootmoot II?

It's only a euphemism on the Hobbit Hole.

I think "playing backgammon" is a nice way of saying "getting to know you better". But some people use it in ways I wouldn't. We're mostly teasin'.

Then again I'm sort of uptight and morally tedious, so...
