The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe
http://freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net/ ^

Posted on 06/01/2005 7:12:04 PM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Standing out in a thunderstorm can be surprisingly chilly.

Here in Texas, it's like standing in a downpour of lukewarm bath water.

There are some strong storms though, aren't there?

Good night, everyone.

Have a good night!

Man, there is an old thread that cites the fact that the Church of England is recommending that all its members boycott Israel in support of Palestinians. At least one freeper, named after Thomas Aguinas, is on the thread who is self righteously and vociferously supporting that church action. I think he is mad at Israel becuase the Abe Foxman went after Gibson's movie. There are times Free Republic makes me sick.

At those times, Sam... You can fight him, or you can just stay in here!

But yes, you're right, The Hole is the best thread on FR. Don't worry, I still love FR. Sometimes, though....

Anyhow, good night all!

Actually, we've only flown once since 9/11 (to WeddingMoot) and we didn't get any extra attention. I figured I looked too much like a terrorist and not enough like a grandma, so I didn't get searched.

So how was Howl's?

Friends and I went to see Fantastic Four, which was funny but not Miyazaki. They're showing Princess Mononoke at a midnight showing next month, but I think that dub was really bad, right?

Note to self: wear ski mask and shout random arabic phrases to avoid special screening.

OK... I'm back... mostly.

My laptop is still one of those that has a PCMCIA card for wifi, and it appears to be pretty well broken. I think I've cracked the motherboard. I hate it when I do that, and this is about the third time I've managed to do it.

Have good longwire connection here at the bachpad for the time being. Seems to be usable.

On another note: If y'all are interested in some quality amusement: Apparently 1090AM in Seattle has become an Air America affiliate. So this evening I spent some time listening to it.

It really is staggering. I figured it might be interesting to see what the "other side" was up to. But I was unprepared for what it truly was.

It's like listening to a radio show put on entirely by fifth or sixth graders, with no parental oversight. It is just really bad, in a dumb and embarrassing sort of way. I had heard it was bad, but I figured that some of that report was probably biased and unfair. But no...

It really is amazingly stupid, and I don't think it is merely because I am opposed to everything they say. It is just badly done and the most intellectually vacant stuff I've ever heard.

I forced myself to listen to Garafalo's show for a while... and I was simply amazed at the shallowness. I really think that there are fifth graders out there that have a deeper grasp on world events than I heard on her show.

At the end, I changed the channel with a smile. If this is the absolute best that the left can come up with, we are in really good shape.

:-)

And they wonder why no one listens.

I've never thought Janene Garofolo or Al Franken were funny at all, but when they're trying to create comedy based on bitterness, they are even LESS funny. That's why Rush and Glenn Beck and Laura Ingraham do so well. Their humor may be pointed, but it is never bitter or ugly.

I got this photo from one of our Hobbit Hole knife customers. It looks like we have to remain in Iraq until they can improve the quality of their graffitti. This one sounds like something out of the Engrish phrase book ("all your base belong to us").

Good Morning, Sleepies!

Got my houseguests up; the c/r and I are going to feed them, and then go garage saling.

We might do a museum or some swimming or go-cart racing later.
