The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

G'nad and Osage Bowman are overcome with joy while cooking. TheGirl is thinking OB's shoes coordinate well with her outfit!

Ladies Night on Wednesday
How can we go wrong? Also, annual membership is mucho cheaper than Crossfire ($20 vs.$50)!

Now all I need is life-sized squirrel and rabbit targets.

I want an AK-47!

Friends don't let friends buy AK47s, except as a toy after you've bought and mastered a series rifle. :)

Seriously, a Chinese AK47 costs $21 to build, using slave labor. The weapon was designed for an untrained, expendable military that used mass unaimed fire, and massed bodies, to get the job done.

The AR15 family, on the other hand, has evolved into a sophisticated, accurate system that can do almost anything with the right accessory attached. It's more delicate, but was designed for the professional soldier who expected to retire after 30 years in the service. It's more of a surgical instrument than a blunt object, and requires some respect, as all precision instruments do.

I have both an AR15 and a AK47S. The AK47S is a fun plinker, good for blasting cheap ammo. If I had to choose, the AK47 would be about the 4th or 5th choice for me among rifles if I needed one to survive.

Oh, and Steve says he prefers to buy you diamonds instead of rifles? What's his feeling about kitchen knives? :)

I agree mostly. I still need an AR also. But as far as AK's go that is a Bulgarian miller receiver (SLR-95) with a 150 dollar quick debatable sight rail on it. I got it with a pile of mags for pretty cheap. As far as AK's go it is arguably the best quality you can get. I have not had it at the range enough to get a real feel for it's accuracy although I am sure my brothers bushmaster could beat it with no trouble. For a survival gun I would probably take my lever action 44mag over it for lightness and versatility.

I virtuously eschewed stopping at the bagel shop. This is Monday, and this is the week I'm gonna get diet and exercise both down right.

That picture's gonna end up in the HH doorway one day.

I think it would be terrific for the next homeschooling thread. It would only confirm the suspicions of those who like to come on those threads complaining about the insular nature of homeschooling. They already think we're some sort of cult folks. Now we can worry them into thinking we must be militia types too! LOL!
