Good morning, master bowman!
It's grey and cool here, so we're ok today without a/c ;~D
Well, this is a bit early for us to have the a/c on, generally not till July, but everything is early this year.
BBL, the cannas want to (well, need to) move to their home. :-)
We need a new home for an Azalea if you find one... it was a gift and it wants out of this pot.
Movie and coffee are over. Maybe I should go outside and do some gardening.
Cool knife! I need to get my nephew's address to you. He's an Apache Longbow D pilot serving in Afghanistan.
Not looking forward to 5:30 Mass, though! The slate roof on the Church just sucks up the heat and it gets brutal! Supposed to have a thunderstorm come though this afternoon, though, so maybe that will cool things off a bit before we go.
I went to the seven thirty...nice and cool, but now it's warming up. Going to be about ninety again. *sign* I love the sunshine here, but I could do without the heat! Means not feeling like doing anything but hanging out reading and watching movies. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but...I wish it'd cool down a bit.
It looks like I'll be buying at least one other Gerber, then. With a street price of $90, it's affordable for our Hobbit Hole helo crew. I'll also send a nice email to Gerber with a picture, once we get our logo on. Who knows, lightning might strike twice.
Gerber makes the same knife, for $1 less, as the "infantry knife". Everything is identical, except no seatblet cutter, or extra straps. For the extra buck, we might as well go with the "aircrew" model.
Back from gardening! Did some filling in with impatiens and found a permanent (hopefully) home for the lemon balm.
Went under the house to change the furnace filter and see how the sump pump is doing in this dry weather.
The good news: don't need to prime the sump pump.
The bad news: the pipe connection above the check valve is loose so the pump pumps water through the crack and back into the crawlspace.
And it's too early to start drinkin'.
BTW....84 degrees so far in TheSunroom.
Ouch. Heat. Hope the AC is working at the church this evening...
WHAT A/C? Our Church is a big 'prayer barn' that has a soaring, uninsulated ceiling and a slate roof. The slate bakes in the sun, then transfers ALL that heat through the roof into the peak inside, and the rest of the space just cooks! If you're not sitting right up by the altar, where there are a couple of floor fans, or right at the back, where there are a couple of fans pointing toward the pews from the balcony, you're out of luck!
I wish they'd get some of those old-time hand fans, you know, the ones usually sponsored by the local funeral home, so people could at least fan themselves. Usually, folks fold up the bulletin and use it for that purpose. I learned long ago to bring my own, and I have a lovely Chinese fan that I keep in my purse. Father Paul always grinned at me when he saw me whip it out at Mass. He once commented that I should be used to the heat, being from MS. I told him that in the South we weren't stupid, we air conditioned our Churches a LONG time ago! ;o)
See, that's just not safe... sometimes the place I've been going, the AC doesn't work, but right now we have about fifty people attending so it's not too bad. If the pews were anything like full...
(please note, with the humidity, the heat index is 95F... no, I'm not going outside anytime soon...)
It was hot like that earlier this week. Only high eighties today. Guess AlGore was right about global warming... we are all gonna die...
Oh, wait. You mean this happens every year?
Afternoon Bear, 92 degrees; Heat Index 98; still it isn't that bad if you're not in direct sun, the shade helps quite a bit.
We're done giving the fence the second coat of stain, hmmm, oil based. Although our side has been kept up much better, it's due again and you can really see the contrast from one side to the other.
Cannas moved, got seven moved, guess the others will just be culled. sniff.
Hey everyone.
Just wanted to stop in and first of all, thank everyone for their prayers.
My grandfather passed away about a half an hour ago.
We're all just shaken up right now, made a bit worse by the fact that today is my sister's birthday and tomorrow is Alyson's. We were getting the party together for this afternoon at 4pm until my mom called.
I wanted to come in here and let you all know how grateful and appreciative my family and I are for your support and encouragement during all of this. I'm so blessed to have you as friends.
I've got to run now, but I'll be back later.
Thanks again everyone. You're truly the best.
And it's 90 degrees in the sunroom. The fan has been on low. Just turned it to high.
(((((((Ruthy))))))))
Peace for your grandfather now, and prayers for you and your family.
