The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

But nobody is taking the time to look at this from Sauron's point of view. He's just misunderstood. Clearly, Gondor has invited this attack by their arrogance.

If they fight, aren't they only going to force Sauron to make more orcs?

Mordor was such a happy place before the war started... it was a happy place. They had flowery meadows, and rainbow skies, and there were rivers of chocolate where the children frolicked and played...

Little orc children, playing with kites.

Then Gordor got all empire-like and started opening all those Starbucks and McDonalds.

Grrrr... I've got a user issue tonight that just may push me over the edge.

Somebody correct me on this: It isn't *completely* against the law to shoot users, is it? I mean, there's some wiggle room for extenuating circumstances, right?

Isn't there like a six-email-nag rule where it becomes OK to just kill the user in order to resolve the problem and close the ticket?

I'm on solid legal ground here, right? :-)

Someone needs to invent a "delete user" button for techie keyboards.

Of course, shootin' might be more fun.

One 'problem' for me is that I don't have to bike home. I can take the bus, it's even got a bike rack.

I guess it helps me that I hate buses! ;)

It will get better, I promise. Something that always encourages me, too, is tracking just how many calories are burned by biking. Biking at just a moderate pace will burn 10 calories per minute. I love that! :o

Bike shorts are helpful, especially once you start increasing the mileage. And if you don't like the spandex (took me years to be willing to wear those spandex shorts in public!) you can buy mountain biking shorts that look like normal shorts. Or you can just wear regular shorts over the top of the spandex ones, that's what I used to do.

It's really fun to see the hobbit-biker group emerging!

Well, thanks!

I take the bus when school is in session - it's that or park and walk a mile, which doesn't make much sense. It's not too horrible, especially if I bring a book. Biking is more fun when it's not hard work.

I like it, but it's tricky at the moment. Still I know I can get better at this.

winmag, how are we doing on funding this operation? Do we need to have any more organized fund drive for regular donations or are you getting enough coming in?

Trust me, every dollar that is donated helps, a lot.

I will probably join halfway through. I have a rehearsal that I'm going to try to wrap up by 6 pm so I can join you all at 6:30 (9:30 eastern). Sorry I'll have to miss the first part, but hopefully I'll be there for the big finish(es)

Oh... I've got a "delete user" button alright... thanks to Active Directory.

But what I really want is a button for "make this users' existence a living hell". Got that?
