The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

That one might slip through if they thought it was satire.

The biggest liberal among the grad students, back during the election, had this "Bush/Cheney" fake shirt that said something about "Eat the Poor". I really wanted one...

When I was at the U. of WA. the 'young republican club' had a great t-shirt: "Burn the poor to heat the rich".

Unfortunately it was too much sarcasm for the young socialists to handle, and they really took it seriously.

Idiots. :-)

Liberals have no sense of humor.

What a big old goofy face Homer's wearing! I'm sure he's glad to be home!

A guy was cleaning out the basement of his new house and found a canning jar containing a clear liquid with the lid duct-taped on.

Anybody heard from Talon tonight? ;o)

Good evening.... Bay seems to fell pretty good after his big workout weekend.... I'm so glad. This is a good shot, I think, goofin' off with me in the paddock.

Then he trotted right up to me... feeling good.

I couldn't detect any traces of guilt.

It wasn't him.

Talon would never turn over something as incredibly useful as a free jar of explosives.

That first one is a *great* shot of Bay. Wow. That's a cool photo.

...and it's always an accident when it works.

I'd rather be lucky than good.

So far, my whole career is built on this premise. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone, but it has worked out OK for me... :-)

Lucky is a hard thing to teach... You've either got it or ya don't.

That's why teaching doesn't pay as well as it might, methinks.

Brilliance still pays... in spite of education to the contrary.

Stupidity and Blind Luck, however....

I'm neither lucky nor good, which explains why I'm having no luck on the job front < /Eeyore>

Back from the hike/picnic/thing. It was OK, I guess. Not that many people showed up, and at one point near the end, a rather odd religious argument got started...I kinda knew some people were "community" Catholics, i.e. there for fellowship rather than because they really think it's meaningful, but I was still surprised at some of the things that were said. *sigh* Like...that God is the only one in heaven, and people won't actually be raised to be judged until the end of the world.

And I just hadda jump in. Didn't get heated, but I'm soooo not good at taking sides, and I'm feeling really drained.

I've heard that one... Heck, who knows, but I hope either way we get new bodies or we are gonna be ripe by then.

Like...that God is the only one in heaven, and people won't actually be raised to be judged until the end of the world.

People should know better than to predict things outside of their control, especially where The Lord Thy God is concerned. He's got a talent for making fools of predictors. Me, I'll wait to see what happens and then pretty much run with it. :-)

But with regard to luckyness and/or goodness: I'm afraid there is no good way to know the difference.
