The Hobbit Hole XXII - ...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

You know, when I was a nurse, I had a speciality...my patients loved it.

I'd help them with their bath, you know...at the bedside. Then I'd pour them a foot soak and let them soak their feet in warm soapy water while I changed their beds!

Elderly people would sit there wrapped in a blanket, soaking their feet, wiggling their toes and feeling a bit pampered.

It was my speciality....no one else did it.

:-)

I bet that had multiple benefits.

Yer a sweetheart, you know.

Insert Stormhands crisis of your choice ~here~.

I'm okay. Nothing some cholesterol medicine and a nap wouldn't help.

Hey speaking of great reads - picked up a Janet Evanovich 'Stephanie Plumb' book out of total boredom and was absolutely blown away. Hilarious stuff! (a little raunch/foul-mouthed urban-New Jersey stuff, but hey) I plan to read the entire series now.

I know...my attitude is that I treat these animals the very best I can, with the understanding that they are to be eaten, then when I'm eating them, I can be proud of where they came from and that for their brief lives, they had it vey vey good.

The problem with this poopy backside situation is that it can progress and cause real problems, like obstruction. I've known about it, but none of my hens ever experienced it. I don't know if this would have progressed, but I just figured it was unsightly anyway. Most of the time if you clear it away, the problem doesn't come back.

Someone bought that book for my mom when she was diagnosed with Cancer. As a gift! She thought it was the weirdest present ever, and we still have it!

I can't imagine buying that book for me, much less someone else who was ill.

I'd be more nervous giving that book as a gift than I would a bottle of Scope.

My luck, I'd give it as a gag, then the recipient would wind up murdered.

Then Aunt Jessica "Stormhands" would have me put away...
