This story to me is hilarious - The Billboards went up today and anyone arrested in Oakland for soliciting a prostitute gets their face up in lights.
This guy takes a DU-Worthy-View of the actions of The City of Oakland.
Did he forget that SOLICITING A PROSTITUTE IS ILLEGAL????

In a civilized and progressive country, buying sex from a prostitute would be no different than buying meat from a butcher.Oh, do they pay the pimps directly?

I guess if they put the pictures of the prostitutes up, it would just be free advertisement?

Damnit! I am trying to work and you have to a throw a prostitute thread in here?
I never cease to be amazed by these male news stories.
Don't worry about being a good father, loving your wife, and only your wife, or even checking that prostate.......NO!, let's get pissed over the laws against prostitution.

I don't believe I've ever actually seen a prostitute outside of a television program. Luckily it's not a law enforcement issue in SD.

Indeed, most Western countries have reasonable laws regarding prostitution, in the U.S. we are faced with Christian fundamentalists imposing their values on the rest of us. If they can't browbeat us into joining their moral crusade, then they will enact laws to prevent us from doing what they secretly wish they could.More BS cheap-shot Christian-bashing that has NOTHING at all to do with "shaming" those who solicit hookers.
As to the author's defining what "reasonable laws" are pertaining to prostitution, 200 years of American Law has indeed spoken.

In a civilized and progressive country, buying sex from a prostitute would be no different than buying meat from a butcher. And who would mind having their picture put on the 'meat purchaser' billboard?

Actually, the author left out the best reason for big government advocates to legalize prostitution - taxes.
If government legalizes it, government can charge for a license, enact sales tax and other accommodation / entertainment taxes, and regulate the process. And we could see the "Commissioner of XXX" make speeches and take bribes. (While the XXX could represent many wonderful and apropos words, XXX does commonly denote sex.)
So, it's a win-win situation for big government of all sizes. I'm surprised my municipality hasn't thought of it already.

Somehow, I don't believe that the People's Republic of Oakland, CA., (home of the Black Panthers, and Governor Moonbeam) is being dictated to by "Christian Fundamentalists".
