time? That's what folks think on the Bo Bice message board on BiceSquad.com. A Bo Bice supporter posted a link that was allegedly published on the online edition of the UK news outlet "The Independent." The mystery link dated May 22, 2005, days before Fox unveiled Carrie Underwood as the winner, identifies Carrie as the new American Idol:
Britain's stars shine for Europe By Jason Nisse 22 May 2005
Ten British-based business people have been named among the 25 Stars of Europe by American magazine BusinessWeek. However, only five of them are actually British, showing the international nature of the UK business community.
Among the more predictable names in the list are Sir Terry Leahy, chief executive of Tesco; BT boss Ben Verwaayen; and Nigel Newton, who signed JK Rowling for Bloomsbury Publishing. More surprising are Andrew Black and Ed Wray, the co-founders of Betfair.com; and Simon Fuller, the pop impresario whose American Idol TV competition was won this year by Carrie Underwood.
Another Bo fan, on the same message board, stated:
"I read about the article on another website last night. Someone wrote the paper and asked how they could print that when the winner had not been determined yet. The paper wrote her back and said they were sorry and the story would be retracted and that they had no inside information. Another editor on another paper stated that they may have thought Carrie was the winner because her song is first on the the CD and all the other finalist were listed in the order they left."
The link to The Independent does not show the reported text, and reads "page not found." But, the original text can still be viewed via Google's "cache" and the headline is still in the archives of the Europe Business Post. Was Bo's near miss rap sheet too much to let him win? Who knows. Even if The Independent's story was real and innocent, it'll certainly fuel American Idol conspiracy theorists who've long suspected some funny business with the show's voting.
Rock Star: INXS (produced by Mark Burnett) premieres on CBS July 11. The winner gets to front INXS on their new album and world tour.
The show will Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays through the rest of the summer.
It was a bit nastier than that, actually.
what last night?
yeah I was...Detroit and Miami with some of the Astros Cubs game thrown in...
"Bo was ridiculous with his long hair, goat tee, hippy clothes, and worse of all, those sunglasses. His music and appearance is so outdated. Rockers are old news. Country Western, Britney Spears type musice and Rapp is in."
All I can say is, "Rock is dead they say, Long live rock. Long live rock, I need it every night,
Long live rock, come on and join the line,
Long live rock, be it dead or alive.
"
Actually, it was a pretty good show. They had a lot of surprises, like audition losers getting to sing on stage and meet their personal idols. They did a spoof on the Corey Clark/Paula Abdul "scandal". They had the top 12 singing with artists like George Benson, Lynard Skynard, Kenny Wayne Shepard, et. al. Vonzell did an absolutely beautiful duet with Billy Preston. It was an exciting show.
I still think the raft scene was hullicinations....I can't believe all 3 of them are dead or about to die now that the raft was blown up.
And the pirates who took Walt? That was bizarre to say the least....
I was simply comparing his out dated look to his out dated music.
Rock and Roll bad guys never did appeal to me. Their drinking and drug habits were disgusting. I am also a baby boomer. Different strokes for different folks. Bo's appearance and music is old stuff. I'm sorry. If I want to listen to Rock, I can put on Rod Stewart , Motley Crue, Freddie Mercury "Queen" Def Leppard and Ozzie Osbourne. Bo is not in their league. Maybe it was the constant sunglass appearance. What was he hiding under those sunglasses? We know he had a previous drug violation.
Being runner up has not hurt Clay Aiken's career.
He is a Southern Rocker, just like Lynard Skynard, the Marshall Tucker Band...His look is not outdsted he just does not look like Today's Version of Rock and Roller's..
He is more like IMO a Bob Seeger, Allman Brothers and Blood Sweat and Tears Type...
I thought he was refreshing on AI..He will definetly get a recording contract...
That is the way I felt, too. He did an outstanding job with that music, but I've already done that decade.
I watched Lost too and agree - it did not resolve anything and even worse - left us with huge issues on top of previous issues.
It seems like the runner up's have had better careers than the winners. When was the last time Ruben Stoddard was heard from?
Am I the only one who started thinking "Boy, you got a purty mouf..."?
Keep in mind the voting is rigged, sort of. The fact people can vote over and over and over is ridiculous - but really not preventable for a pop show. Some FReepers bragged they voted 400 times or more! So you don't necessarily get a true majority, unless you assume fans of both were overvoting equally. No way to tell and not all that big a deal in the scheme of things. Bo did great and his career will skyrocket as a rocker. He doesn't need the Miss America-type title - Carrie does.
Is that really a prize seeing as what happened to their last singer?
Bo was not robbed, so these people need to get over themselves. Bo is great and will have a great career ahead of him. In terms of who will sell more records, it will be Carrie hands down.
She appeals to the Country-pop crowd and is a sweet, down-home girl. Nice role model for young girls. I just hope she doesn't turn trashy like Brittany and Christina A. Don't see that happening.
The right person won. No scandal here.
Agreed Carrie is a sweet good country singer, but lot's of singers like her right now in country music
Sara Evans
Gretchen Wilson
Leann Rimes
BO on the other hand is the only Rocker currently that represnts Good Ol' Rock and Roll Music
