firefox works great on my ibook
SIX batteries out of several hundred thousand were found to have caused a fire. The problem is in the Korean Manufacturer's assembly on some of the batteries in the series. Apple reported the problem themselves and is recalling all several hundred thousand. In other words, most users will never encounter the problem.
I had mine overheat once and it got up to about 150 degrees, I'd guess. It's not going to burn down the house, but it will get your attention.
I had to go over to my parents to change the 9V backup battery in one of their smoke alarms.
I had to work at it, and noticed that one or two of the 6 cells started to expand and contort the bottom of the battery
making it difficult to open the door.
Scan the Help files. A link appears on the menu bar.
Oh, I don't know.
You took my reply away from me. These, especially the OS X manulas are invaluable, not for using the machine at a basic level; you really don't need anything for that, but there is a lot of hidden power just under the hood that can be gotten at real easy if you know how, and the "Missing Manuals" will show you how.
That's not my experience. I use Quicken fo rthe Mac at home and Quickbooks on a PC at work, I also use Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) at work on a PC, and their Mac versions at home on my Mac.
In all cases the Mac versions are easier to navigate and use, and get me off the computer, job done, quicker.
What? Are you building a PC or using a PC? Why on earth would anyone but a computer engineer want to design one's own PCI-like board?
When did Clinton leave a "leftover" Apple Powerbook in Bush's Crawford Ranch study???
Thanks for the info... still trying to get Mrs. B to ditch IE for Firefox. Wives seem to be equipped with a "stubborn filter"-- about half of what I tell her gets blocked automatically.
ONLY HALF?
Well, that's average- on a good day, maybe 25% gets filtered out, but it has a notch function which can block 101% in an instant...
My advice is always to unhide extensions when you are saving Mac files.
Extensions can be a problem, IMO, as it confuses a user on the WIndows side who may see two files where you think you sent them one.
If you create a Word file on a Mac called "myFavoriteFreepers.doc" and save it to a Windows formatted diskette, and open it on a Windows machine with equivalent Word version, you may see two files:
._myFavoriteFreepers.doc AND myFavoriteFreepers.doc
Depending upon which icon or file you click on, the Windows user either will see something or nothing.
The Mac resource fork file ._myFavoriteFreepers.doc begins with the period and dash ( ._ )
You can trash it off the diskette or leave it. The other file, myFavoriteFreepers.doc, will open in Windows Word version.
If you try to open the Mac resource fork on the Windows side it just shows blank.
I think you don't get resource forks either if you stuff (zip) Mac files using Stuffit Deluxe or Drop Zip when exchanging them to the Windows side; ditto when you burn CDs on a Mac using PC/Mac readable option.
Here to confuse you is a recent opinion on the larger picture of file extension use:
http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/macosx-10.4.ars/11
"Even '.doc', which most people know as the file name extension for Microsoft Word documents, is used by at least four other applications: FrameMaker, WordStar, WordPerfect, and DisplayWrite. Clearly, a file's type cannot be conclusively and uniquely identified based on its file name extension."
What? Are you building a PC or using a PC?I hate to say it, but, "here we go again".
There two types of people in the world, my FRiend; those that build things and those that buy them.
A PC is just another 'tool' in the tool box, and sometimes that tool needs improvement, for a more direct 'tie' to other hardware or sometimes that hardware can be put on a PCI card and the PC serves as host (for power and a physical place to a board), as control (logic I/O), and display (data display to screen).
Not EVERYONE uses the PC as something just to play Quake on ...
Some of us build things like this:
Oh, and in my humble beginnings with a Mac, I seem to have figured it out and the tips were great. I did some work on it today and got the job done without a lot of frustration.
Thanks to all that offered their tips and help and suggestions. You're the best!
