Factor - not solve - to me the "answer" is no more information than the problem - but I can't get from A - B? Help! Thanks in advance - you guys have never let me down before.

You've factored the polynomial expression correctly.

3x3-3x2-18x -> 3x(x2-x-6) -> 3x(x-3)(x-2)

It's Bush's fault, that is almost always the answer!

3x^3-3x^2-18x
3x(x^2-x-6)
3x(x-3)(x+2)

Remove the 3x from each term. It leaves a quadratic (x^2-x-6). The quadratic factors into (x-3)(x+2)

3x 2 - (3x 2) - 18x
simplifies to
x(3x2 - 3x -18)
which simplifies to
3x(x2 - x -6)
which simplifies to
3x(x+2)(x-3)

3x3-3x2-18x = 3x[x2-x-6] = 3x [x2+2x -3x-6] = 3x[x(x+2)-3(x+2)]=3x(x-3)(x+2)

I believe to simplify normally means to factor the polynomial. You did so correctly.
