Quick! - finals in progress and I can't help my daughter with this one ... and I hsve the ANSWER! I think ...
A to B?

Factor - not solve - to me the "answer" is no more information than the problem - but I can't get from A - B? Help! Thanks in advance - you guys have never let me down before.

You've factored the polynomial expression correctly.

A) 3x cubed - (3x squared) - 18x
3x3 - 3x2 -18x
3x(x2 - x -6)

3x3-3x2-18x -> 3x(x2-x-6) -> 3x(x-3)(x-2)

It's Bush's fault, that is almost always the answer!

3x^3-3x^2-18x
3x(x^2-x-6)
3x(x-3)(x+2)
Remove the 3x from each term. It leaves a quadratic (x^2-x-6). The quadratic factors into (x-3)(x+2)

wouldn't (x-3)(x-2) produce x2-5x+6?

3x 2 - (3x 2) - 18x
simplifies to
x(3x2 - 3x -18)
which simplifies to
3x(x2 - x -6)
which simplifies to
3x(x+2)(x-3)
