NEW YORK - Comedy Central star Dave Chappelle has checked himself into a mental health facility in South Africa, the magazine Entertainment Weekly reported on Wednesday.
The comedians whereabouts and condition have been unknown since Comedy Central abruptly announced last week that the planned May 31 launch of the third season of Chappelles Show had been postponed and production halted.

I don't agree with his politics , but he's still a funny guy.

I don't agree with his politics, but he's still a funny guy.I don't even know who he is, so I don't know if he is funny or not. Wishing him the best though if he checked into, how is it said in modern PC circles, The Booby House?

A mental health facility in South Africa? Isn't that like being a failed suicide bomber and checking yourself into the Arafat Pacifist Center?

Same here. He's hilarious. I must admit that when I first saw his show I had him confused with "JJ" From "Good Times".

No precedent here - Jonathan Winters used to check himself in and out of the Funny Farm at his leisure. Hell, he used it as part of his act.
I've also heard the same about Joe Cocker.

I had him confused with "JJ" From "Good Times" LOL, me too!!
(Love your tag line, BTW, I wish someone would have given me that advice before I married my 1st wife!)

"That -------'s crazy!"
Richard Pryor, Cleavon Little, Martin Lawrence, now Dave Chappelle.
It must be Bush's fault.

Glad to see he is getting help. Hopefully they will be able to give him medicine for his racism.

He sounds like he really needs help. I read somewhere this isn't your typical 2 week Hollywood breakdown.
Then again I read Ashton Kutcher is ending "Punk'd" after this season.
I'd vote for Chapelle's black Bush if he ran (uh, that didn't come out right). He is funny as hell, and I hope he is okay. I heard rumors a few days earlier he was suffering from pressure of trying to repeat the success of the first 2 seasons.
While I occasionally watch his show, it's not like it's he's the Picasso of the comedy world. He's funny, and he'll always be funny. He's got it made if he can just do what he enjoys.

My wife is the rare exception to that rule. She's an angel on loan from God. I've had the papers on her for 12 years now and I'll be married to her for as long as I live.

Heard him on a lengthy interview on the radio. Surprisingly nice guy, but major-league pot smoker.

Good comedy seems to that area of the brain that a select few are able to tap into. I sometimes wonder if some of the doors that get opened were never meant to be opened.
Unless one has a firm grasp on reality, I can see where a comic could get into an "I'm better than all of you because I see things you don't and can articulate them in a manner that is funny, but I'm really shoving it up your @$$ and you don't even know it" ... trip.

I think I've read where he's mentioned he was offset by the stress of his success as a comedian. Hope he gets well soon. He's pretty funny.
