While I agree that MadIvan is/was a great poster and made a heckuva lot of sense the majority of the time, I have to say that the treatment Americans get in the UK is a lot worse than a Brit gets on FR. I lived there 3 1/2 years (in the service) and got cr#p on a daily basis - NOT coming from the British media - but from Englishmen (but strangely never in Scotland, Wales, or N.I.). I was even assaulted over there because I was a "Yank" - and this was in the early 90s.
Also, as a member of another forum that is dominated by Brits - it gets a bit frustrating, especially since most of the other Americans are more than willing to heap the abuse on their on country. (Yep, main opinion there is we're all a bunch of fat overpaid morons with Nazi tendencies)
Frankly, Ivan should stick it out - he'll never convince the "bigots," but most people can figure out what's bigotry and what's a legitimate position.
Only Ivan can tell us what spanners, braces, lifts and lorries are and how it feels to be gobsmacked!!! Who is going to update us on the goings-on of the House of Windsor? Who makes a perfect cup of tea??

And I guess you think the people outside who were not arrested were simply wringing their hands, but were not engaged in active civil disobedience. Maybe they were PRAYING. Has that occurred to you?

Yep - hitting the nail right on the head. There is NO place else to go to discuss issues with fellow conservatives. I just think we have to realize that conservatives have varying viewpoints and that doesn't make someone "less" or "more" conservative.
