In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today.
The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer. I’m just letting all the new students know that we behave as if we were ladies and gentlemen in here. Those two words “as if” can get you an A if you make the subbie laugh.

you know, there are threads on FR where even posting something like that in spanish, might get you lynched. that makes me sad. and i avoid those threads like the plague!
am not a huge fan of either genre, but it is interesting to me that there is even any attempt to blend and merge them for wider appeal.

Um...not sure if I've offended. Sorry for that, I was just giving Old Mexico a little love on their Day of Victory at the expense of the French. All the derogatories were aimed at the French, who I thought were still fair game here at FR.
The Mexicans referred to themselves at that time as "sons of the raped one". It was a bitter badge (steenkeen badges!) they wore with honor in defense of their Motherland. Meant as an epithet hurled at the Mexica, they in turn, ameliorated its meaning by embracing their "mixed" status, adpoting the phrase, and fighting for their freedom from foreign tyranny.

no offense at all. i was a latin american studies /spanish/poli sci major undergrad. but have you not detected some of the horrible bias in some corners of FR against ANYTHING hispanic, spanish speaking etc? i avoid the immigration threads. i am sure my outlook is colored by living far away from the southern border (or so one of them told me once). but i love latin america and its language and culture.
Oh, how disappointing. I thought that the WFTD thread had been specifically targetted. You know, because being erudite was offensive or something :)
