no offense at all. i was a latin american studies /spanish/poli sci major undergrad. but have you not detected some of the horrible bias in some corners of FR against ANYTHING hispanic, spanish speaking etc? i avoid the immigration threads. i am sure my outlook is colored by living far away from the southern border (or so one of them told me once). but i love latin america and its language and culture.
Nope. I never go to those threads. I'm afraid that my five years in Mexico City would betray my heartfelt admiration for the average Mexican.
And it only took eight days in Cuba, in La Havana and in the back country for me to fall in love with the most beautiful, funny, and bitingly sarcastic Castro commentators in the world. National Healthcare my arse! In both countries people knowingly nod when someone goes into the hospital. It's assumed they will die soon.
I think they should all be LEGAL immigrants, but I don't blame anyone for wanting to be here instead of whatever S.A. hellhole they were unfortunate enough to be born in.
So do I, for the same reasons you do. I would really like to see something done to stem the ILLEGALS but I have nothing against hispanic/spanish speaking. There are large pockets of both Quatamalans and Mexicans here and they are for the most part hard-working, law abiding, productive members of the community.
Unfortunately problems arise during the tomato planting (now) and harvesting seasons - but they occur primarily within the confines of the migrant camps.
My Aunt spent the better part of 25 years living and working in South and Central American countries and I have learned much of the cultures from her.
Here in AZ we have the Hohocums (the ancient ones), but, of course, they are Indians.
