Favorite Conservative Movies?

Posted on 05/04/2005 2:51:42 PM PDT by rogermonroe

I'm a liberal but growing increasingly disenchanted with the left. I'm also a movie fan. I'm looking for a list of the movies most beloved by conservatives, movies that support conservative ideals, films that make a good argument for conservatism. I figured this was the place to go. If you were making such a list, what would be on it? Rambo? Red Dawn? What?

Your right, the libs hate it and the conservatives skirt it through grace. All in all, it's watered down.

I loved the first one, after that Iron Eagle went dwonhill. Isn't that always the case?

I don't know if anyone mentioned these movies but the Dirty Harry and Death Wish movies are cool as well, the first couple of them. Arioch7 out!

my all time favorite movie would be American History X

Are you f*king kidding me?

That was the biggest slap to conservative faces in film history.

They made Edward Norton sound as though he was reading from the RNC platform. He was against welfare, affirmative action and on and on. And lets see what else: The neo-nazi's made fun of Hillary, called Ed Norton's sister an "f'ing Democrat" and Cesar Chavez a lazy commie.

They made us look like a bunch of jackass Nazis

Unfortunately, what you're asking for is contradictory almost by definition. Movies are not the place to look for conservative values and lessons...books are. Movies are designed to stir the emotions, and while much of conservatism is emotionally stirring, it's because of the epiphanies that come from profound insights and sublime thoughts.

Let's face it, Hayek's The Road To Serfdom is not going to make a good movie, but reading it with understanding will change your life.

Likewise, Ayn Rand was quite explicit in teaching that certain concepts require different modes of communication. Her thoughts can only be truly appreciated when engaged in a book length treatment.

Rush Limbaugh's 22 minutes a night on television were a dismal failure, yet he has a radio audience surpassing most cable news channels for three hours a day, and has done so for over fifteen years.

That's the other place conservatives live. Talk Radio. We are more interested in thoughts than feelings, and for thoughts you need the thousand words, not the picture.

As Ann Coulter has said, conservatives own books, talk radio, and the internet...basicly all the media that is only controlled by market forces.

I can't believe how few people recognized the underlying message of that movie!
SERENITY/FIREFLY (movie/series) should be on the list if you want a bit of Libertarian (information should be free) influence.
