AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 1563) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | May 2, 2005 | All of Us

Posted on 05/02/2005 4:39:30 AM PDT by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail!

Good morning!!

Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

Oil is down to around $49/bbl.

North Korea test fired a short-range missile into the Sea of Japan. The Administration said North Korea was trying to be "the bullies of the world."

And at the National Press Club, Laura Bush left them in stitches. For example: "George always says he's delighted to come to these press dinners. Baloney. He's usually in bed by now. I'm not kidding. I said to him the other day, 'George, if you really want to end tyranny in the world, you're going to have to stay up later."

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

I've liked Cedric from the day I saw "Barbershop" for his comments on Jesse Jackson.

LOL! Well, since Raven is a commonsense, reality-facing conservative, I'm sure those facts will have an impact....in contrast to the other side..."the Don't Confuse Me with the Facts" Crowd....

Husband & I spent the night at church with our week's guest families...

KONK...Head hits keyboard. Back later.

I saw this morning that David Corn was whining that her jokes were too risque.

Who is David Corn? Seems I should recognize the name but can't this morning.

Having consulted with Neets, we've agreed on the Treaty of Stamford, as that's in Connecticut and roughly a neutral zone between Yankee and Red Sox territory. No more discussion about Red Sox-Yanks on the thread. It just leads to bad blood between fellow friends. Newcomers are allowed to express their allegiance, but are discouraged from any further outbursts.

The reason we agreed on this is that it distracts from the purpose of this thread: a safe haven from all the bickering we find in the news forum. I'm sure a lot of you will recall the feud Jem and I had a few years ago over another trivial subject, and we didn't speak for well over a year. I don't want to have that happen again.

So Bit, I'm asking you to revise your "Welcome to ATRW" post to include no Red Sox-Yankees rants, and no Kirk vs. Picard rants. ;^)

He's a leftwing columnist who appears now and then on H&C to spout rants. He also has a lisp.

Many, many years ago - I was at a Boston / NY game at the Stadium......the Yanks were down 6 and won it in the bottom of the ninth with a flurry of homers followed by a crowd frenzy that lasted forever. What a game !!! What a game !!!

David Corn was whining that her jokes were too risqué.

Willie Nelson made a movie with Robert Redford many years ago. Willie had some lines that were really Hillbilly risqué. I wondered why the film did not get an x rating.

I was watching the biography channel this weekend. On the show they were discussing that film with the producer. Who said that Willie just ad-libbed all those lines. He said the lines got by the film ratings board because the educated types that rated the film did not know the meaning of what Willie was saying.

The joke Laura told about the horse is a very old joke often told about city slickers. I heard it when I was a small boy. Trying to milk a male horse was an example of a city slickers ignorance. It did not have a sexual connotation other than the city slickers not being able to determine the gender of a horse. The joke said a city slicker did not know as much as a 6 year old youngster raised in the country.

The same is true when someone was described as being worthless as teats on a boar hog. The meaning was that a boar hog could not nurse piglets. Just as the skills or more likely advanced education of the city person did not qualify them to do even simple tasks well.

Up until the 1950s being educated was not an advantage. Franklin Delano Roosevelt got gentleman's 'C's in college. He was afraid that if he got A's people would look upon him as a brain... And brainy people were impractical people who were not to be trusted with responsiblity. Thus the term 'Gentlemean's Cs'.

Untill after World War II a 4 point college student was considered an impractical brain who resided in an ivory tower and totally out of touch with the real world. Such brainy people were considered impractical and were not put in charge of anything important.

I still remember a short story that was assigned reading in my Freshman English Class at OU. It was a story that tried to make the case that getting good grades did not mean you would be an impractical failure in life.

Many of the media elite do not understand the heartland of America or its humor. And those that do .. are afraid to admit it.

It is the curse of "19." Every time the Yankees score 19 runs in a game they go into a tailspin.

I am not a big Red Sox fan (I was as a child) but I do enjoy the banter between others now and then. My son went to a school which had a pretty even mix of New Englanders and New Yorkers, and the rivalries b/n many of them over MLB were amusing from my perspective.

Around these parts recently the Patriots and Jets rivalry was where the hype was. That had to do with Parcells and later Belichik. Nowadays Pats fans mostly seem to be focused on the Steelers and Colts. That is a relief because it seemed that forever the Pats fans were obsessed with the fact that "our" team was always runners up to those charmed Dolphins.

Baseball isn't that the game where the lowest paid player makes around $100,000 a year to sit in the dugout yet they cry that they dont make enough money and go on strike?

hmmm havent watched it since the last strike don't plan on starting anytime soon.

Just sneeking in to say "Morning" . It's been quite busy here at work! Going to catch up with the week-end thread.

One thing I can tell you is that I'm tired of the "runaway bride" story too. In my opinion, anyone who plans a wedding with 600 guests is already looney. Hubby and I attended my cousins wedding this past Saturday in Georgetown, Delaware. There were less than 100 guests and it was the best time! Us "old" folk kept the party going with our dancing since the youngsters sat in their chairs! My step-mother is a real swinger at 77! And the grooms grandmother and I got the dancing rolling by leading everyone to the dance floor by example. What a time!

Only saw snippets of the First Lady's speech and would love to read /see the whole thing. The part I saw was wonderful!
