SCOTT Savol, who seems to be the most unlikely finalist on "American Idol" this season, just keeps hanging on.
And viewers are beginning to wonder exactly how Savol, the pudgy kid from Shaker Heights, Ohio, is managing to pull it off, while fan favorites like Constantine Maroulis get the boot, as he did Wednesday night.
Some point to the efforts of a Web site called votefortheworst.com, which considers "Idol" a joke and encourages viewers to cast their votes for Savol because, it says, "he is the worst."
"I think our site definitely has some effect on the results for 'Idol,' " says Dave DellaTerza, the site's creator.
"I always used to say it's just like any 12-year-old girl power-voting for [Idol wannabe] Carrie [Underwood]," he says.
That girl "thinks her results affect the show, too, when they just help to contribute. But I've changed my tune a bit since our Web site got over 100,000 hits in the last two days. Now I'm hearing from people who throw 'vote for the worst' parties, who get office pools together to vote for Scott . . . This has definitely turned into something huge, which I hope will continue."
It was a shock Wednesday when Maroulis, who had never before come even thisclose to getting tossed from the show, was voted out. But the native New Yorker took it in stride.

Hey that's a cool idea man.
After that we can all by a few cans of spray paint and find some spots to spray paint our tags, man. Then we can go to the town park and tip over a few garbage cans.
Or are you too busy watching more "interesting" shows on TV?
Dead: And I actually like Scott. Hes edgier and funkier than all the other contestants.
And there you have it in a nutshell. Different strokes for different folks. I just made the following comments on the running AI thread. It may help bring the truth more clearly into focus.
I personally don't think that website and any others like it could swing the votes as much as they claim. AI says it's been receiving over 35,000,000 million votes (obviously not necessarily from 35,000,000 individuals). Dividing 35 million equally among the top six finalists produces 5,833,333 per contestant.
AI has never released the weekly totals or percentages for any contestant. But the percentages are what would help everyone understand all this better.
For example, the most recent AOL polls on the last six AI contestants had Bo and Carrie at 35% each. If that's really how the actual vote totals break down, that's 70% between just two contestants -- or 30% (10.5 mil based on a total of 35 mil) unequally divided among the bottom four people.
Understood in this way, a relatively few votes easily could separate the bottom two each week -- perhaps as litte as a few hundred or a few thousand. The spread between the bottom contestants might be as little as a fraction of one percent of the total votes cast each week, and certainly is not much greater than a couple of percentage points.
The differences at the bottom easily are explainable as the result of random weekly swings in the number of fans for a given contestant who were able to get through on the phone lines. The fact that many people vote for more than one candidate each week -- and vote multiple times each week -- further complicates the picture.
If people are "voting for the worst" because they truly believe they're going to "change the music world," then they are just ignorant.
But I think most of 'em aren't like that. They're worse than ignorant.
*LOL*!! I will try not to comment (on this thread anyway) on what I think about his looks. Besides, I think that topic has been fairly well covered. :-)
Vonzell can belt it out! ;-) But Carrie's better. (Even though I'm with Simon on not getting the country music thang.)
My votes on BO Too! I can appreciate Good Rock and Rollers as there are so few today!
But Funny as it is! I really like this NEW RAP Song by LLCoolJ I think it starts out like:
"They Call me Big L.A,Big Silly, Big Willy pretty good song for Rap...
I agree.
Scott in my opinion is creepy. I am drawn to his weird under the chin beard. lol, I know that is weird too, but he just is not idol material. Nice voice, but that is hardly enough.
I do not know why Idol cannot control the telephones, seems one vote per person is what it should be. Some of the kids on the web site are bragging about voting 400 times.
true dat!
I listen to a classic rock station when I don't have talk radio on. Some of the newer rock leaves me cold.
They are probably just doing it because it is a fox show.
"Vote for the Worst" is a stupid idea.
1/2 black? His parents were part of the interview last Tuesday, they did not appear black.
It seems to me that the voters age has much to do with who they like. I am 64, hubby 75, we like Carrie, Anthony, and liked Anwar.
Bo Bice reminds of the guy who wears his hair long because it is receeded in the front.
They all have been inconsistent in my opinion. The one performance that Carrie Underwood did signing a Heart song was the best single performance (she hasn't quite been up to that level).
I thought when she sang Let Freedom Ring she was targeting the Sean Hannity vote.
Bo Bice: okay at times
Vonzell: somewhat overrated because she looks the part
Federov: his singing is off ... last episode he did well though
Savol: Fun to laugh at
Carrie: alright (probably will win). She needs to come up with some better outfits for her performances.
"Kip, is that you?"
Careful.....we both know I'm a trained cage fighter
BO has the BEST VOICE he is right up there with Bob Seeger or lead singer from JOURNEY forgot his name..His hair suits him and reflects the musician he is. The Music world of Rock and Roll are guys that look like Bo not like the guys proably on Free Republic.. (Not meaning that in a bad way)
I saw a strange ad today for the O'Reilly Show, on which Mr. O is going to discuss the brewing conflict between Disney and Fox re. Idol. I'm sort of tempted to tune in. *LOL*
You criticize the American public for their ignorance but your own profound ignorance is truly showing.
