The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Review
cinemablend.com ^ | 4/28/2005 | Joshua Tyler

Posted on 04/28/2005 10:44:46 AM PDT by js1138

Starring: Martin Freeman, Sam Rockwell, Mos Def, Zooey Deschanel, Bill Nighy, Anna Chancellor, John Malkovich, Warwick Davis, Alan Rickman (voice), Stephen Fry (voice)

It opens with a perfectly choreographed dolphin musical number, and ends with the disembodied head of deceased author Douglas Adams. This is the long awaited adaptation of his novel, “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” and as the dolphins flawlessly perform their rendition of “So Long and Thanks for All the Fish” you’ll realize you’re in for one hell of a ride. Don’t panic. It only gets a little weirder.

I have my doubts about this film, although Hammer and Tongs were great Music Video directors, I feel like this movie might be too incoherent.

Too bad I like Martin freeman, and Sam Rockwell is, IMHO, one of the best young actors on the planet.

I'll still be seeing it, though.

Particularly here in the states, Tom Baker *is* Doctor Who. I've come to appreciate Pertwee and Davidson, but I haven't watched the others enough to have formed much of an opinion on them.

Well, Tom Bombadil wasn't in the Lord of the Rings. I guess you can't have it all. ;)

I've never heard the radio shows. I've been meaning to do so one of these days.

Very cool link...but I have all 12 of the originals on CD already....however...

Check out this link. The BBC is airing (and streaming via internet) the radio production of Douglas Adams' 3rd and 4th "phases" of HHGTTG (Quandary and Quintissential Phases).
Phase 1 was esentially episodes 1-6 of the original BBC Radiophonic Workshop series and Phase 2 was episodes 7-12. These new ones feature 90% OF THE ORIGINAL CAST! Check it out. First episode airs May 3rd at 6:30 pm and 11:30 pm BST (British Summer Time) which is 6 hours earlier than EDT.

That would be an SEP.

Oh well. I'll just have to settle for a nice, frigid Bombay and tonic....and then smash my head in with a large gold brick wrapped in a twist of lemon.

Do NOT go see this without me! This sounds like something we should see soon. Is it a date? :)

I've been hunting all over the internet looking for a copy to buy. I used to have the cassettes, but my brother lost one of them, and then the rest followed suit. If anyone knows where to get the radio program on CD or DVD, I'd be most appreciative. There is a DVD at Amazon, but it's the 1981 TV series.

Which would make a really good tagline for a few days...

I was going to use that one myself...but....

Thanks. Poor choice of terms on my part, the sarcasm didn't come across -- I realize they're two different guys...

The names were close enough that I didn't know if you were kidding or not. Thought you were looking for information.

I can't agree with his atheism, I have to agree with Adams religious views in this...

"In England we seem to have drifted from vague wishy-washy Anglicanism to vague wishy-washy Agnosticism - both of which I think betoken a desire not to have to think about things too much."

Too true of England and much of the rest of the formally Christian west.

I'm afraid I have tapes etc., etc., etc.

I wonder how you feel about the phrase "share and enjoy" :)

Certain strains of Christianity eschew joviality.

True, but ALL strains of liberalism/leftism eschew joviality if you dare to question or criticize them.

I counted the decades, then the years. Suddenly it's here. I didn't even know they were making the movie until the trailers started appearing a couple months ago.

Then I found out it was Disney. Oh no! the first trailer was animated.

The reviews are mostly harmless. I'm going.
