The Hobbit Hole XXI - ...Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Are you just mad about the lack of writing ability in the recent Star Wars movies, or Lucas's supposed digs at Bush? I saw the movie yesterday and honestly, it wasn't there. Not to any half-witted student of history who sees the stories more related to the fall of the Roman Republic than anything else.

Movie was much better than the previous two, and the first five minutes had the most gorgeous space battle. They almost managed not to have up-down orientation.

If that's spoilage, get yer silly self to the movie, because you're hopeless. You do know Anakin's wife has twins, right?

a conference is coming up in June with the writers of The Well Trained Mind as keynote speakers...am very excited about that!!

WooHoo!! I just bought their most recent book "The Well Educated Mind: A Guide to the Classical Education You Never Had." I've become very interested in Classical studies since Clare's been homeschooling, so I'm going to try it out myself.

Have a great time at the conference. Those gatherings are great motivators!

I might buy a 65 VW

Are you going to restore it like 2J and Steve are doing?

The Thirteenth Warrior

We're getting that tomorrow from Netflix. SSQ hasn't seen it, and Clare's only seen part of it. Didn't we watch it at Entmoot?

Evenin' (or vey early mornin')

Jr. and I just got back from a 10:30 showing of SWIII. Got there right on time and walked right in. Theater was about half full.

Thought it was most enjoyable. Definitely made up for 1 and 2. Jr. thought it might be the best of the six. I'm not so sure. 'Course he didn't experience the initial magic of seeing the first three in the theater.

Can we talk spoilage yet?

I thought it was definitely the better of the last three. I still like Return of the Jedi best, though.

just out and out mad at Lucas' lack of common sense when it comes to producing a consistent story. As an 'original' fan, I am all too aware of how he has decided to thumb his nose at the lot of us who actually appreciated what he did in SW and ESB. I personally never thought the script for SW:ANH was all that bad, but I also tend to think it was the talent of the actors he hired that made the whole thing what it was, and I always feel that a really good actor will make whatever lousy line he is given sound genuine if his talent and skill are up to par. But Lucas decided we fans needed to be taught a lesson.

As for the political stuff, the way my brain and feelings have been going lately, Id be happy to forsake looking for political boogeymen in everything I see. It has worn me out for the time being. I am sure later on there will be something that will get my political juices going, but for now, I am trying to regain my Writer's Muse. So whatever political stuff is in the last SW...meh!...big deal. He writes like a fifth grader with a crush and shows off like a teenage boy with a new car. Boring.

How are you and Rosie doing? Hope all is well your way!

Suzi - I am VERY excited about the WTM stuff, and my HS friend is interested as well, although she is having to deal with some learning disability issues with her daughter.

Netflix, eh? I am hoping to go to Best Buy tomorrow and get it...that and The Quick and the Dead.

Im open for spoilers. Im serious in that I really dont want to go spend the money at the theatres. I might even just borrow the DVD from someone.

Am more interested in spending money to go see "Cinderella Man" - and I have never been a fan of boxing (guess why I want to go! LOL)

No way it's the best. It was very good, better as I reflect on it - IE the long drawn out betrayal sequences. But there weren't any great moments like, say, the one in Empire Strikes Back just before Han gets frozen. The characters are much more one-dimensional than the ones in the original trilogy. Some of it was still just silly.

But it was good. And anyone who wants to see had better get himself to a theater soon because I don't see how you can really spoil a movie where everyone's known the ending for twenty years.
