The Hobbit Hole XXI - ...Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Towards the Moon or to the Sun.

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

The catch with being in the Away team is that they do not have anything set up in terms of child care.

I would have to bring both girls to the office with me and try to work under those conditions. Impossible!

How on earth am I going to keep a 3 year old entertained long enough to run payrolls? :-/

I'll just do what I did last year. Sign up and wait and see. If a storm really heads this way, they can blow the In-House Team rules out their shorts!

Good grief. Do all companies do this?

I mean... I don't live where there are regular, predictable life threatening events, but I've never had a company have a policy about who has to come in first after an earthquake.

No, not all companies. Just abnormal, dysfunctional ones like the one I work for. :-D

You can tell that management was not living here during or after Andrew.

When everything is destroyed, no one is worried about payroll or anything else for that matter.

Good Lord! What a stupid list of options! But I agree...in house sounds best for you.

My dad just emailed me, asking if Steve could come get their freezer this Friday...you know they're giving me their big deep freeze? I said sure. And I asked if he could also get a bunch of my other stuff that I know is over there...like a wax doll from Viet Nam that my cousin brought back for me during the war.

I also asked if I was gonna get my cedar chest. My grandmother gave it to me and my mom has been "keeping" it for me. Every time I asked for it in the past, she always talked me into letting her keep it for safe-keeping.

Well, when my dad brought over a bunch of stuff a couple weeks ago, some of it was some of the stuff I kept in the cedar chest...all stuck in a plastic bag.

I've been very anxious about it...if I don't get the cedar chest, then I will have nothing from my grandmother. I had her wedding ring at one time but when I checked into the hospital to have Matthew, my mom took it for safe-keeping and I never got it back either. I don't hope to get it back.

I'm very anxious.

Heh. Yeah. I run on a pretty steady supply of anxiety anyways...it's hard on my whole system when I run into overload like this.

Gonna fry myself some eggs with cheese...maybe a little protein will stop these shakes!

I also asked if I was gonna get my cedar chest.

Don't ask "if", sis.

I would simply say "When can I come over and pick up my cedar chest?"

You're leaving it wide open for excuses. Don't let them move away with it if it means a lot to you.

Ditto what Ruthie said. I like the assertive language: "When can I come over and pick up my cedar chest?" :)

Well..in any case, sounds like you won't have any worries when you actually DO leave - I had a hard time making the decision to leave my job. I don't think it'll be so hard for you when the time comes. ;-)

Ugh...speaking of job stuff...I'm calling around asking for people to be references. I REALLLY hate this sort of thing.

All's well that ends better...

Dad just wrote back and said we could get the chest this Friday when we pick up the freezer.

And my wedding dress too.

Said all the rest of the stuff is already shipped to Texas...so I just said "Ship it back when you come across it unpacking". I'd like to get the Vietnamese doll back, but don't really care that much.

I'm thinking of laying down!

I've been extremely worried about this since their house sold...

I'm gonna really need ShootMoot. They leave town on the 1st.

One character reference down, three to five to go... (Have to have four, can have up to six).

Is that what you were doing when I left? Calling people?

I still think you should get Corin and g'nad as character refs.

Yeah. Called home first to get some phone numbers quicker than looking them up one by one and to brainstorm possible references, and then I started calling possible references.

I have to wait for evening for quite a few, though.
