Norwegians run amok in Sweden
While debate rages over links between crime and foreigners in Norway, Swedish police are dealing with a sharp rise in troublesome foreigners of their own: Norwegians accounted for half of all criminal convictions in the border town of Stromstad so far this year.
Stromstad is a popular destination for Norwegians shopping for items that are much cheaper in Sweden than in Norway, because of Sweden's lower taxes.
Among those items are wine, beer and liquor, which many Norwegians apparently drink on the spot and then cause trouble. Swedish police report that most of the crimes committed by Norwegians are carried out when they're drunk.
The increase in Norwegian convictions has been explosive, reports newspaper Aftenposten. In 2001, police dealt with 399 reported crimes in Stromstad. So far this year, the number already has soared to 540.
"We suspect that much of this also stems from organized bands that travel down from Oslo," Arne Burman, police chief in Stromstad, told Aftenposten. "But it's difficult to prove. Those sent home to Norway often already have a long police record in Norway."
The newspaper trolled court records in Stromstad and Tanum and found that 59 of 119 convictions involved defendants with Norwegian citizenship.
Among those convicted was a man from Oestfold who was charged with animal cruelty after he tried to run over a swan with a shopping cart while clearly intoxicated. A man from Vestfold was convicted of recklessly operating a 12-meter-long cabin cruiser in Stromstad's inner harbor with a blood alcohol level of 1.8.
Police now suspect two Norwegians are behind the rape of an 18-year-old Swede last weekend.
Maybe Swedish alcohol does not agree with our allies in the war against terror, the Norwegians.

Were do you get all this animal news. Its not that strange that many of the crimes are convicted by Norwegian. I have been there many times since I live pretty close to the boarder. I say everybody I know goes to Sweden frequently to buy alcohol and meat etc. There is probably more Norwegian in Strømstad than Swedes when the stores are open.
Organized crime is done mostly by east Europeans, Vietnamis living in Oslo. Atleast I have that feeling.

The English translations are only a small part of all the news that appears in the Aftenposten, and it seems to me the management of the Aftenposten appears to think that Americans and British are interested only in "lightweight" news, and so have only the "light" stories translated.

Same as here in the United States; organized crime is a function of certain elements of eastern Europe.
There are a lot of Vietnamese here in Nebraska, but they are absent from the crime statistics, being generally overall modest unassuming law-abiding people; the small-businessmen, high-grades-in-school, sort of people.

Well, I checked, and it just says "NorwayFjord2," and nothing else.
But I am not a "scenery" or "nature" sort of person, more interested in people than in things. This is probably because out here in Nebraska, the Norway of America, we are surfeited with scenery and nature, and one gets tired of it.
To me, one fjord looks just like another fjord.
The income-tax season went well; there are still some loose strings--extensions filed--but I assure you not because of me. People just tend to put things off--even when fully aware a large refund is coming their way--and so one goes with the flow.
I almost got archered by a hunter this morning, which was the first day of hunting season here in Nebraska.....
What in the world is anyone hunting THIS time of year in Nebraska?

Nebraska must be - I don't know how to say it - but if hunting is allowed in April---that's pretty sick.

And unfortunately while scouting around for one of the cats--George--in the high green prairie grass, I was wearing muted colors (grey, light blue), and someone from a distance, sensing "movement," aimed.....but came nowhere close to letting the bow go, as hunters in Nebraska are a decent, commonsensical lot who never shoot until they're sure.
Also today opens the lottery for licenses to hunt bighorn sheep in Nebraska (later on in the year).

Since it's about 1:30 a.m. in Norway right now, and it's likely all the Norwegians are in bed, asleep, I'll take the liberty of answering.
Yeah, apparently there is a "significant" body of Vietnamese in Norway, perhaps a few tens of thousands out of a population of 4.5 million.
These however are not new arrivals.
They were refugees from March-April-May 1975, and have been in Norway for more than a generation now.
We have Vietnamese in my part of Fla.The majority tend to do quite well here.Very self disciplined.
The Vietnamese have done great here in Nebraska, too, despite the terrain and culture being utterly unlike any they had ever encountered before.
Mostly small businessmen who audibly gripe about taxes (a good thing to do), Vietnamese names usually dominating the lists on the "honor rolls" in schools, and generally laid-back, mellow, and law-abiding (it must be something in the "air," about Nebraska). They generally vote Republican, and one in fact was, or is, a member of the Omaha City Council.
Although I have yet to see a Vietnamese cowboy.
Incidentally, in Norway, where Roman Catholicism was all but eradicated by 1530, and there are only 50,000 of them among 4.5 million, the Vietnamese appear to make up the bulk of them.

Nope, bighorn sheep here in Nebraska, the northwestern corner by the Black Hills of South Dakota.
The deal is, the lottery is open only to Nebraskans (I am thinking about getting an entry for a friend; I do not hunt myself), and there is a "limited" harvest.
I am not sure how many permits are issued.
Anyway, one pays $20 to enter the lottery.
If one is lucky, then that is all he pays (i.e., no further fees), and he gets all the horses he wants, all the guides he wants, and four days of food and lodging at Fort Robinson State Park.....without laying down another cent.
I forgot to mention.
Are you aware that mountain lions are now proliferating in.....Iowa?
