IN IMMEDIATE NEED OF HOMES!
THERE ARE 20 IBIZAN HOUNDS IN OMAHA NEBRASKA
IN IMMEDIATE NEED OF HOMES!
These wonderful dogs, some of whom are AKC champions, have been removed from bad living conditions near Omaha NE. Prospective adopters/foster homes and transportation is -desperately- needed!
The dogs are currently being held at the Humane Society in Omaha NE. Some are in poor health due to lack of proper care and there are 5 5-week old puppies also. Most are adult dogs of various ages and sexes. 10 more dogs were not surrendered by the "owner" and I don't know if they'll also be available, pending more investigation by the HS.
If you or anyone else you know would be willing to offer GOOD homes to these rare and special dogs, please use the contact information given below:

Most of these of dogs are sisters/brothers/aunts and uncles of my own "kids". Some of the dogs on the page may actually *be* the dogs available since they're not telling us *which* dogs were taken or whether or not some of them are even alive anymore.
I have spent the night posting this everywhere else I could think but I *hope* FReepers would be the first in the adoption line. I want them to have the -best- homes possible.
Thanks to everyone for putting up with this "vanity".
Shari [Salamander]
I volunteer for a rescue group, so I can relate to this story. I applaud your efforts and wish you good luck in finding these animals good homes.
Thank you, Coop.
May God bless you for what you do.
I have 4 Ibizans right now and I wish I had room for 10 or 11 more....:)
I'm trying to find the "doggie ping" list right now so pardon the extra person this is posted to....:)
I can't take a dog, but I will once again make my little effort to help with this huge problem by posting a little rant.
AKC "papers" are a total absolute unmitigated fraud. Don't ever pay money for a dog because it has "papers". The whole horrible puppy mill business, and resulting huge population of unwanted dogs, is the direct result of the AKC and its promotion of the alleged value of the fraudulent "papers" it sells. Anyone who has ever paid money for a dog with "papers" is part of the problem.
I get really tired of hearing about "responsible breeders" and "AKC champions" (which, as we can see here, often live in, and breed from, puppy mills). There is no such thing as "responsibly" breeding more dogs, while hundreds of thousands are homeless and being euthanized (usually after suffering neglect and/or abuse for some time).
Yet one more reason to get a lovable mutt (or purebred, if you must) from a rescue organization or shelter.
It was *not* a puppy mill.
The woman responsible for this is just an idiot.
Previously she was a reputable shower who did not breed at all.
She supposedly got "sick" and let everything go to hell.
Her initial dogs ALL came directly from MY dog's breeder who shows them and has actually only bred 2 or 3 litters in 20+ years.
The point I was trying to make is that an irresponsible flake let the dogs mix and match with no regard to their welfare.
One of her dogs is the sister to my dog and also the sister to the #1 Ibizan Hound in Canada.
There are *no* Ibizan Hound puppy mills ANYWHERE.
The breed exists in the US in mere hundreds of hounds.
They are nearly imossible to buy because the actual owners/breeders are fanatical about *not* breeding casually or indiscriminately.
And, FYI, I became friends with the my dog's breeder and only ever paid for her gas to meet me halfway so she could -give- me 4 of her dogs because she thinks so highly of how I care for them.
I have the papers and never sent them in because I do not intend to ever breed them.
These dogs are *all" like "family" to me and I really wish you could've saved your "rant" for someone who isn't already in agony over the situation.
Not that it's any of your business, but -every- dog I've ever owned either came from the pound or was given to me for the sake of its best interests.
I used to adopt the unadoptables from the local SPCA, fix them up and give them to friends and family.
The SPCA knew I was "vioalting" their return for surrender policy but didn't care because I saved many dogs from certain death because they were too old/ugly/beat up/abused to be otherwise adopted.
"Yet one more reason to get a lovable mutt (or purebred, if you must) from a rescue organization or shelter."
Rose Bednarski, listed above, -is- the head of the Ibzizan Hound -Rescue Society-.
And by the way, the latest addition to my family is an Ibizan who beaten by her Louisiana cop owner so badly that her ribs were broken.
She was run through glass doors, hit with canes and God knows what else was done to her.
She is an emotional wreck and still terrified of men.
Mrs Bednarski managed to get her back to TN and her breeder via the "Underground Dog railroad" which is a chain of people who drive the dog as far as they can whereupon someone else takes *their* turn in the canine relay race across the country.
I think you missed the point of the puppy mill rant. It was not aimed at you or this breed, but at the comprehensive issue of "papers." You and this rescue organization are doing fine work.
The fact that these are registered dogs may help find them new homes among those people who compete in the various dog sports. The puppy mill rant accuse these dogs of being part of the puppy mill industry, it was a cheap shot.
Considering the emotional stress I'm under right now, it was still not a good time to post it.
This is like having loved ones waiting on death row when they haven't done anything to deserve it.
I abhor puppy mills myself.
A woman up the pike from me jumped on the "Doberman bandwagon" back in the 70s and -literally- bred the dog my great uncle gave her as a gift to -death-.
2-3 litters -every- year for 5 years straight until the dog dropped dead from the strain on her body.
I also had the sickening duty of nursing one of her pups back from the brink of crippling rickets and the worst worm infestation imaginable.
I have never seen anything so miserable in my life.
She also had I don't know how many peek-a-poos and such procreating in a hideous "kennel" behind her house.
I have one bitch that I'd dearly love to have puppies from because she's everything a good dog should be but I never will because if she had a *large* litter, I'd be overwhelmed by it all since I simply would -never- allow them to leave this property.
I would be solely responsible for them for their entire lives, just as I am for the 4 "kids" I have now.
No, it wasn't a cheap shot. It was a very valid point.
That is what I fear.
These are -not- puppy mill dogs.
They are good dogs who have never lived in a "kennel" environment.
They *were* all house dogs before the HS got them.
Do a google search for Ibizan puppies for sale.
You'll be hard-pressed to find any.
The breedings that *do* take place already have the puppies sold to people on ridiculously long "waiting lists".
I know because it almost impossible for me to find *another* one when my first rescue Ibizan started getting old enough to worry me.
For what it's worth, I do work for a breed organization - GRREAT (Golden Retriever Rescue, Education and Training), although we do take in mixed breeds that have recognizable golden characteristics. But my wife and I own two rescued mutts. :-)
I inherited my paternal grandmother's "dog magnet".
If there's a lost or stray dog within 5 miles of this place, it will ignore every other house and come straight -here-.
They all either get taken home or fed/fixed up and given to people I trust.
And ironically, I don't know the names of most of my neighbors but I *can* tell you where every single neighborhood dog "belongs".....:))
Breederville ping.
Purebred dogs would be extinct and we would be one step closer to the extinction of domestic dogs
The point is still quite valid.
