BOSTON -- New York Yankees right fielder Gary Sheffield got into a brief scuffle with a fan at Fenway Park during Thursday night's game against the Boston Red Sox.
Sheffield was fielding Jason Varitek's two-run triple along the right-field fence in the eighth inning when a fan swung a short uppercut in his direction, appearing to graze the side of the slugger's face with his right arm.
After Sheffield picked up the ball, he shoved the fan before throwing the ball back into the infield. Then he whirled around with a cocked fist, but restrained himself and began shouting in the man's face.
Sheffield did not throw a punch at the fan, and a security official quickly jumped in to separate the two.
I didn't see any beer poured towards Sheffield. I'd give the girl that Sheffield almost knocked over with holding enough self-control to not pour her beer in Sheffield's face.
you are friggin blind then. watch the replay from the 3rd base camera. the @$$ in the GAP sweatshirt clearly twisted his wrist to spill his beer on Sheffield.
'Roid rage?
The guy didnt hit Sheffield. his arm swung low like i dont know what he was doing, but he was looking to his left like he was look at another fan in the seats talking about something and sheffield punched him.
The fan took a swipe at Sheffield, his hand grazed off of Sheffield's face, then continued on and he hit his drunk buddy in the face too.
Another day in the beer garden.
Did YOU see the play, or are you Mr. Magoo?
That simply is not true. Sheffield took a swing at the fan (not that the fan didn't perhaps deserve it) but Sheffield did take a swing.
nah. He's a psycho. One guy in the Brewers organization said that if he hadnt broken in as a shortstop, he would be the last face you see when you get killed by the Mafia or something....
Believe me, I'm not a Yankees fan, but Boston is just as guilty as the Yankees for being an Evil Empire. Boston is simply blessed with 3/4s of ESPN being New Englanders.
the fan went into the field of play and hit a guy in a face. Any normal human being would strike back. Hell the guy is lucky Sheffield didnt go OJ on him....
Perhaps! Or maybe its the leftover effects of October-chokitis!
you missed the entire play then....he did hit sheffield in the face. One of the camera angles clearly showed that.
Sorry clemenza, fags are fags (to be loathed & destroyed fer sure), but the damn Yanquis are just the damn Yanquis, a great rival team that makes for great games.
Put it this way. If all the faggots in the world suddenly dropped dead, would you be glad? I would.
If all the Yanquis players in the world suddenly dropped dead would you be sad? I would.
The fan did NOT leave the seats. Maybe we are talking about a different play. The one I saw Sheffield punched him without provocation.
Well, I'd hardly call it a swing. He went to the drunk's face with his glove and pushed. Got in his face. The drunk's buddy had his hand between the glove and the guy's face.
"Baseball Tonight" just did a tellustrator breakdown of Dubya's first pitch. It was well done, in kindness, with a thumbs up. "I know he loves this show, so we're gonna give him the complete breakdown."
LOL
I live here to. When it was October I just called him Gary "pop-up" Sheffield.
he stuck his arm out of the stands. He broke the plane of the wall. He was, by the rules of BASEBALL in the field of play....
look it up.
