US Gun Statistics - Various Sources - 2-2-5
Guns:
1. The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. Yes, that is 80 million.
2. The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
3. The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.000188.
Doctors
1. The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
2. Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
3. Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
(Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. of Health Human Services)
Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!
Out of concern for the public at large, statistics on lawyers have been withheld on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.
Let me know the next time a gun delivers a baby or takes out an sppendix. Yes it is funny.
good un -
bitt - Thanks for the ping.
CitizenM - don't know if it's true, but I heard it on either the Gary McNamara show or the Jerry Doyle show tonight on WBAP radio, don't remember which - it was near the end of McNamara or the start of Doyle.
If true, it's amazing.
Perhaps we need better 'Dr. control laws'. Everyone would need to get a 'license to see a Dr.' and go through a complete background check and Federal physical before getting an appointment to see a Dr. or go to the hospital or ER. Maybe safety courses on Dr's, hospitals, and malpractice would also be required.
Wow, just think - a whole new tax-payer subsidized industry could be born. Speaking of being born - everyone would have to register for OB/GYN hazard courses and get a permit showing they know the risks of sex and having babies. No permit, no sex (either straight or gay).
Gee - that might put the liberal left in a real bind, how to create the new cottage industry without putting a crimp in their sexual promiscuity. However, I'm sure they'll work it out.
Pinging my humor ping list.
"They can have my Dr. when they pry his bill from my cold dead fingers."
ehhh - that didn't come out exactly right.
;^D
"Let me know the next time a gun delivers a baby"
Guns have been known to encourage marriages when a baby was found to be on the way.
There are lies...There are damn lies...Then there are statistics...And now there are polls.
Consider that there are roughly 300 Million people in the United States. On average, each person goes to see a doctor twice a year. Some more than others but averaging out for the entire population, about twice a year. That makes 600 Million patient visits per year. Let's see 120,000 deaths due to physician error per year divide by 600 Million patient visits = 0.0002 There are 700,000 doctors in the U.S....crunching numbers....= THE REAL TRUTH!! There is a such growing distrust by the public for physicians in this country that is unfathomable to me as a physician. Medicine is after all still an art, not an exact science. That's why it's call a "practice" because we do not dare to be so arrogant as to say that we have all the answers. Defensive/CYA medicine is carried out by every physician in this country because of fear of lititgation. I have been in medicine for 20 years and will admit that over the years, I've ordered more and more unnecessary tests in forms of xrays, blood work, CT's, MRI's, ultrasounds, stress tests, cardiac caths...because of our litigous atmosphere. It is so easy, a wield of a pen, a verbal order to prevent months/years of aggravation inherent with all law suits.
I had no idea I was such a lethal weapon! /sarcasm
whoa, Dr. - this is just a humor thread to show how stupid liberals are when it comes to gun laws. No need to take offense.
We all know why you have to order more and more tests to defend against malpractice suits, and that the cost of medical care (and insurance) increases exponentially because of it. That's why there is such a big push for tort reform.
Say - now we can gig all the lawyers, heheh. Know any good lawyer jokes?
How many lawyers does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Five
- 1 to write the 20 page contract for installing the light bulb
- 1 to file a suit against the maker of the light bulb for not being self-installing
- 1 to appeal (win or lose)
- 1 to defend the suit
- 1 to hire an electrician to do the job.
Yeah, but such statistics perpetuates unfounded distrusts for the medical field. There's not a single day at work that I don't save a life, for real. But there's also not a single day that goes by that some joker is not threatening to sue me. The growing litigous atmosphere, the growing disdain that our society has for physicians, the unbelievable sense of entitlement many patients and their family members have in their ridiculous demands...I have just about had it. I really am considering retirement by the end of next year. Am I burned out? Hardly. You know, if someone could subsidize it, I would run a free clinic, not charge a dime, only if patients would sign a waiver never to sue no matter what happens, in return I promise to deliver the best medical care I know how.
Speaking of statistics and the twisting of numbers, let's see...there are 80 million gun owners, each one discharging about a couple hundred rounds of bullets per year...and only 1,500 accidental death. That's it? Not bad...or maybe...WHAT A BUNCH OF LOUSY SHOOTERS.
Intentional shootings make for a larger statistic. Keep in mind most gun owners are trying not to hit anyone, and are successful at this. (8^D)
My point was to show how statistics do not equate to truth. Certainly not every bullet shot is aimed at another human being.
welcome!
'now, Doctor, I am glad I ran into you...I have this pain...'
lol
Most doctors are well practiced at the art of the wallectomy! ;-P
Ban medicine. If just one child is saved, it will be worth it!
Sport Doctors are fine. It is the deadly Assault Doctors that worry me!
Given sufficient caliber and proper shot placement, they'll also take out an appendix.
Right. This shows that statistics can be used in any manner to put a spin on any point, and even to make a "funny." I do think the writer's objective was to make people laugh with this. I really didn't think it was offered as a serious argument.
